“Turning off Composite Preview During Trim” was the first thing I tried. It did not work. Turning off my external view worked. I use Blackmagic and tried updating to their latest drivers but it did not change it.

I figured out a workaround. By going to “Preferences>Playback>Video devices” and turning off my external monitor I was able to get trimming to work on my desktop.

I think I am having this same problem. I trim the old-fashioned way (using the trim window a la Avid) and the video freezes but I can hear the audio. Is this the same problem you are having?

September 11, 2015 at 2:09 pm in reply to: Auto-Save not working / only so many save files???Yes I did check by the Date Modified. It’s weird because some projects have this problem while others do not. My project that has this problem is an older, long-form project that was started a few months ago. Adobe has gone through a couple of Premiere updates since I started the project. After software updates the software tells me “This project was saved from a previous version of Adobe Premiere and must be converted.” Maybe that has something to do with the issue?

The company I used to work for had a JVC BR-S622DXU VHS deck that had a TBC with noise reduction and component outputs.
This model here: https://pro.jvc.com/prof/attributes/features.jsp?model_id=MDL100045The only caveat is that the deck would only play back tapes recored in “SP”. It seemed like half the tapes we received were recorded in “EP” so we would have to use a consumer deck to digitize those tapes.

I shoot with a Nikon D800. A couple of things to check:
1. Make sure you are shooting in Manual mode. The camera dial on the top of the camera should be set to “M”.
2. Check the menu to make sure your camera is not on the auto-ISO setting.
3. Make sure your white balance is not set to “Auto”. Set it on “Incandescent” or “Daylight” or one of the other settings, but not “Auto”.

I wouldn’t hold my breath. I edited with FCP between 1998-2013 and always had this same problem with FCP and three different Blackmagic Decklink cards. But while crashing while trimming occasionally happened with FCP, it happens constantly with Premiere.

James. Thank you for the reply. That was it! I have no idea why I ever never thought the third party I/O hardware would be the issue. I am using a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Express with my late 2013 Mac Pro and before that a Deckling HD Extreme card with a 2008 Mac Pro. I have turned off my external monitor in the Premiere settings and no crashes yet. I guess the reason I never had that problem with all of my years using Media Composer was because they make their own I/O hardware. Thanks for your help.
