grab another 2 gigs if you want final cut to behave well on your machine. i had a similar problem. i couldn;t open sequences or even load clips in the viewer. sometimes it wouldn’t open at all.

i upgraded my G5 to a dual 2.5 with 2.5 gigs of ram and no more problems.

ALSO: if you are using one of the latest generation G5s then it is not actually compatible with the decklink cards… that’s why i upgraded my machine… there is a technote on BMD’s website:

what is your drive array – your storage for the media? if you are playing back uncompressed 10 bit video it will probably stutter if you try to play it back off your internal HD.

The reason I’m asking is becaused the output level on my Decklink SP is a little low. I’m trying to find a way to boost the ouput from the computer, without having to adjust the footage coming in or having to put a proc amp on my whole sequence.

You should keep an eye out.

I am doing a sort of “trade” with my G5. A reseller offered to take my dual 2.0 GHz off my hands and send me a dual 2.5 GHz and I got a fair price for the used machine. In fact, you may find that if you try to sell yours on ebay you will be able to afford a newer 2.3 Ghz…

I should add…

All of this went down right before a deadline. I had no time to acutally go and test all the elements of my system somewhere else. Some things may have been discovered or tested on other machines at the reseller I mentioned, that would have led to the solution eventually.

It seems I have seriously offended the reseller so I apologize.

A new machine is on it’s way… I can’t believe it took over a week to find that out.

I even called BMD resellers in my area and none of them had that info to offer. Although one of them said, maybe it’s your machine, but then offered to try the card in his machine, which is the G5 1.8 GHz with no PCIx slots, the other model of G5 which doesn’t support decklink cards….

you can use the decklink to be the output for your system.

i don;t know how to do it on pc but in os x you open system prefs and choose it as your sound output device. then all your system sounds play through the DL.

I have done so.

Everything else seems to work fine until I install that driver.

Any other ideas. I have to fix this today. My system has been down for weeks!

I also have problems with the drivers. I can only use 5.0 or 5.1 but in both cases they cause my timeline, and all the source files in my system to play back all messed up, basically the sound plays normally and the video plays back at almost twice the speed…

Even in the BMD Deck Control Software things play back too fast. And I have no desktop output, not FCP output, no output at all. I can capture, but that’s the only thing I can do. And who knows if what I’m capturing is being captured correctly.

It doesn;t seem to matter if it’s 10 bit uncomressed 4:2:2 or DV footage, it always plays bvack too fast when the BMD drivres are installed..
When I uninstall the BMD drivers., everything plays back at the right speed, video and audio are back in sync.

As I posted above i’ve reinstalled FCP, reinstalled the decklink drivers, replaced me Decklink SP card yesterday, and fixed all my permissions… still not working… HELP!!!

It should be on a white sticker on the card itself.

Thats where the serial number is on my Decklink SP.
