  • Everything is playing back at twice the speed it should

I have a Decklink SP (with the 5.1 drivers) – brand new – in a G5 dual 2.0 GHz with 2.5 Gigs of RAM, running FCP HD 5.0.2 (ran software update yesterday).

My FCP timeline plays back at almost double speed! That’s not the only problem. Even the Blackmagic Deck Control sloftware plays quicktime clips back at almost double speed. I’m really confused???

I’ve uninstallled and trashed prefs and reinstalled and fixed permissions and everything is up to date… What else can I try to solve the problem?

    Thank you for any help.

I really think that the Decklink 5.1 drivers are not working properly.

When the Decklink 5.1 drivers are installed in my system. final cut plays back all video with the video at about one and a half to 2 times the speed it should be playing back at, and the sound playing normally. I though the sound was drifting before but the real problem is that the decklink drivers seem to make the video play too fast.

When I uninstall the BMD Drivers (5.1) the video plays normally. whether it’s uncompressed 4:2:2 or DV footage.

Please help me I’ve narrrowed this problme down and now I have no ideas left. My shystem hasnn;t been wokring properly for weeks now, my work is ppipling up and even though i got a new card, reinstalled every part of my system anbd fixed my permissions… I still can;t output an iota of video.

    Please help me.

    Kai,

The card is not compatible with the PCI bus on the new 2Ghz machine. You must have a G5 with PCI-X slots which are available on the older 2.0/2.5Ghz and new 2.3/2.7Ghz Macs. It’s an Apple issue and documented on the BMD website. I found out the hard way and ended up with a new 2Ghz G5 that I couldn’t return or exchange (B&H Photo) for a 2.3Ghz.

I just came here to post that info, which I got from Dave at BMD.

    Thank you.

A new machine is on it’s way… I can’t believe it took over a week to find that out.

I even called BMD resellers in my area and none of them had that info to offer. Although one of them said, maybe it’s your machine, but then offered to try the card in his machine, which is the G5 1.8 GHz with no PCIx slots, the other model of G5 which doesn’t support decklink cards….

    Yeeeesh!!!

    I should add…

All of this went down right before a deadline. I had no time to acutally go and test all the elements of my system somewhere else. Some things may have been discovered or tested on other machines at the reseller I mentioned, that would have led to the solution eventually.

It seems I have seriously offended the reseller so I apologize.

You should keep an eye out.

I am doing a sort of “trade” with my G5. A reseller offered to take my dual 2.0 GHz off my hands and send me a dual 2.5 GHz and I got a fair price for the used machine. In fact, you may find that if you try to sell yours on ebay you will be able to afford a newer 2.3 Ghz…

    Good luck!

    Hi Kai,

Thank you for posting this information and it’s a pity you encountered that problem. Your problem sounds as though it is related to the known problem documented in the support note No video output from PowerMac G5 (PCI) and we also mention this in the DeckLink Minimum System Requirements for Mac OS X.

Your observations are different in that you are at least getting video output on playback so I shall retest this issue to see if we see the same thing. Maybe these Macs are behaving differently now and, if so, we might be able to do something about it.
