    Correction:

The Decklink shifts things to the right, not left.

    Sorry.

    Same problem though!

  • The answer is… The 4:4:4 card does it in hardware, the 4:2:2 card does it in software… my question still is… why is the qality sooooo bad…

I gather this issue is still unresolved.

    I don;t have problems with 3D title either…

But trashing prefs, fixings perms, flashing pram had no effect. i know the text menu works cause i can press the up and down keys and scroll through fonts, but the menu just doesn;t pull down, it’s invisible…

    hmmmm….

i guess i’l reinstall final cut when i have time.,..

    I don;t think that’s the problem.

Even if i only have software based down conversion it shouldn;t look like hi8 footage on a card that costs $1000.

    It’s terrible.

Does the decklink Extreme capture HD video or just downconvert it to one of the outputs on the breakout cable?

I’m capturing stuff from two decks:

    Sony PVW-2800
    Sony J-3

I’m outputting to either a Digibeta Deck from Sony or to the PVW-2800.

My main problem is whitie, and chroma levels, I’m making progress with the white level by making tiny adjustments to my input proc amp gain. My system is capturing and laying back white and black levels properly. Chroma levels are another story. When I render something in After Effects, then output it in Final Cut Pro, I get illegal chroma levels. I had several tapes refused technical approval at PBS in the States recently and I wondered if there was somethign else I could change about my system to clamp all my chroma at 100.

I could use the NTSC safe plugin in FCP, or use the “Safe Colors” buttons in some of the AE plugins I use. Maybe I’m, missing a step in my workflow…

    Do you have any ideas?

    Be careful.

Some Dual 2.0 GHz G5s (entry level with PCI, not PCIx) don’t work with decklink cards… To see if your G5 is one of them, chekc this technote from BMDs website:

    https://www.decklink.com/support/detail.asp?techID=76

    Good luck!
