Thanks for the info guys!

This sometimes happens to me when editing DV that has been captured at the wrong audio frequency (ie: 32 kHz on tape captured at 48 kHz) but I have no experience with XDCAM so this may be useless info to you.
Just thought I’d mention it in case it sparks any other ideas!

January 22, 2008 at 2:37 pm in reply to: Deck control for HDR-HC7 Camera doesn’t work in FCPHD!!Hi Sally.
Thanks for the tips.. I have no problem capturing now, thanks to your advice.
Just so you know.. If you capture in DV and find that the image is distorted. There is a place in the clip settings in FCPHD where you can tell the software whether the clip is anamorphic (widescreen) or normal(4:3). If you put a tick mark in this column, FCP will stretch your clip to the correct proportions.
You can also set up a capture template that automatically sets all of the clips you capture to widescreen/anamorphic. I find it much easier to edit in DV than in HDV, which is an MPEG format. Then I do the online later on. Then again, I’m also working with HDCAM footage which is very heavy to edit.
Thanks again!

January 18, 2008 at 7:13 pm in reply to: Deck control for HDR-HC7 Camera doesn’t work in FCPHD!!I should add that I’ trying to capture in DV mode, not using the HDV capture template/tool in FCPHD.

That is correct. I have the RCA from the VHS connected to the Y In BNC connector on my multibridge. I was able to capture with no problems to my 3rd system which uses an ols Decklink standard def. card.. So I know the problem is with the drivers or the system.
I used to get this problem when my multibridge was set to SDI and I was trying to capture analogue or vice versa but back then it was video and audio problems.. not it’s just the audio.
Thanks,
Kai

September 19, 2006 at 4:00 pm in reply to: Missing Part of a Clip only in FCP, not in QT?Interestingly..
When I copied the files to another identical sysem on my network (another FInal Cut Pro HD system running on the same kind of G5 as mine) the files imported just fine.. they all show the proper length.. why is my system still not importing them properly.. I created a new project after having trashed prefs, restarting, fixing permissions, etc.. And stilol the files show the wrong length when imported.. even though they playback just fine in QT..
How strange..

I tried that but it didn’t work. it was set to thousands instead of millions but changing it to millions had no effect on the overlays. I’m going to try tossing my prefs next.
Thanks!

March 26, 2006 at 3:58 pm in reply to: Decklink HD red tint on component, not on composite?Interesting discussion.
Fortunately, I have the HDCAM deck we are using to output our masters on site now, and I can confirm that the red tint exists ONLY on the component output of the decklink HD Pro (Single Link) card. The SDI output is fine. I’m using the standard setup on the HDCAM deck, a Sony HDW-500 and the output of the Sony looks great on the same JVC monitor I talked about before. I think BMD should release a driver update with the ability to control the chroma gain on each channel of the component output. I know that on our other system, whoich uses Decklink SP card.. You can change the input gain as well as the input chroma on the other 2 wires coming in to the card.
I will ask my reseller to put in a feature request.. It’s a shame that such a nice card comes with such a limited number of options in the control panel.
The HD to SD downconvert is also of TERRIBLE quality on the HD Pro Single Link card. I am aware that it’s software based but it’s virtually a useless feature because it does such a bad job of downconverting. I am fortunate that the Sony JH-3 HDCAM deck I used to digitize in SD for offline had it’s own SD output – which looked a thousand times better than the Decklink Pro HD’s software downconvert.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my Declink card, but some of the features leave a lot to be desired!
Thanks!

if you’re using one of the HD cards you can set it to “HD to SD letterbox” in your system prefs in the blackmagic ‘control panel’.
i’m not sure if the SD cards do the same..

March 23, 2006 at 3:53 pm in reply to: Audio delay is killng me, please help! (repost)only time that ever happened to me was when i had my decklink card monitoring video, and my audio monitoring set to internal audio… but it seems you’ve got that set corrctly.. have you made sure that your ‘frame offset’ is set correctly for your system? it’s in the playback control tab in the system settings.
good luck.
