  • Popping + Out of sync audio – Multibridge Pro

    Hi.

I’m trying to grab some footage off of an old VHS tape (pause for laughter) and the audio is coming in all out of sync and screwed up.. I’ve got a multibridge pro and the input is set to: NTSC/PAL & Analog XLR Audio.

There is all this weird clipping in the audio, and a lot of loud popping as well..

I’m using Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 (everything else is up to date ie: system, quicktime, decklink drivers). I checked the VHS through several monitors and the picture and audio are in sync, and there are no pops or gaps in the sound.

    Any ideas?

Kai, how are you connecting your inputs to the multibridge? I assume you have a video composite rca from the vhs deck, to Y bnc input in the multibridge? Is this correct?

That is correct. I have the RCA from the VHS connected to the Y In BNC connector on my multibridge. I was able to capture with no problems to my 3rd system which uses an ols Decklink standard def. card.. So I know the problem is with the drivers or the system.

I used to get this problem when my multibridge was set to SDI and I was trying to capture analogue or vice versa but back then it was video and audio problems.. not it’s just the audio.

    Thanks,

    Kai

Did you ever get a solid answer to this problem? If so, tell me the answer as we have had serious problems with audio sync when it comes to Blackmagic Design and VHS analog tapes remaining in sync on playback. It is so bad that we stripped everything software wise from our Mac Pro 8 core so that only the system software and Blackmagic Design hardware and drivers are all that is in the machine. Using only their Deck Control software for capture, everything appears in sync on the capture. Finish capture and playback with QT Pro and sync is gone. We have spoken with BMD’s tech support more than 10 times. Still no resolve. We’ve searched internet boards to find an answer, but no luck.

To add insult to injury, we still have a POS Sony DVC 100 firewire capture box and you guessed it, it works flawlessly every time. So why does a $100 POS work fabulous and my $2000 BMD interface continue to disappoint?

Don’t get me started on HDMI capture issues either, LOL.
