Well said. From what I’m hearing all the HDV cameras do this with FCP.

I’m having what I think may be the same issue.
If I come back to the project a day later or do a restart my rendered timeline suddenly needs rendering. I can see the rendered files in the “rendered files” folder but FCP doesn’t link them up! I’m pretty sure it’s a bug but seems like people would be screaming about this. Personally I do renders that take hours. To have the link broken is seriously upsetting!
FCS2 on 8 core.

JVC doesn’t do 1080i24- but you probably already know that by now.

It is impossible to downconvert via firewire. Firewire simply copies data- period. You would have to either go analog or just digitize the 720p to your computer, do the downconvert via software, then dump back to the deck.

The JVC does not record 1080i at any frame rate. Not sure where you read this. It’s quite easy and common to convert 720p to 1080i after digitizing (if you really need 1080i).

What’s happening is that you can tell the camrera to output 1080i out of the anolog component outputs, handy in some applications like when shooting live to match other cameras. Even so, it will still record to tape as 720p.
Hope this clears up the confusion.
BTW- don’t think that 1080i is better than 720p (Europe chose 720p as their HD broadcast standard over 1080i). Read up a bit if your confused. Just google 720p vs 1080i.

Well I’m at a loss too. All the HD templates are 29.97 fps. Once you open a template you can’t change the time base… HELLO!
