After my experience with the Intensity Pro I’m quite surprised at all the magazines who have awarded it has “pick hit” or “viddy”. No one at any magazine actually used one.

In case anyone is wondering- this is not a professional solution and really doesn’t belong in a dedicated edit suite.

Digitizing via HDMI is mercurial
RCA audio is not acceptable
Constantly loses connection while editing in FCP

We need HDMI becuase of our JVC deck so we’ll eventually go with io HD or BM Eclipse as details emerge on the two.

Yes the Intensity is an HDMI card which mates perfectly with our JVC BR-HD50 HDV deck. I have not thought about an AV amp with HDMI in. I think it would work. The only thing that I would be worried about is HDCP. That would add another “handshake” to the system which doesn’t always function perfectly already.

I may try it as it’s not a very expensive solution and I can always return the thing.

Hi Thax,

So yeah, that one firewire device would be “audio out via firewire”. I don’t use firewire for my current set up- all I/O is going in and out of the Intensity card which is a PCIe device.

In other words I can set video out to Black Magic Intensity and set audio out to firewire.

Hey Walter, and everyone else,

Not sure if you already knew this but one can burn HD-DVD’s (onto a regular DVD5 that is)right now.

I am of course awaiting Blu-Ray capablilities from Apple more than just about anyone. The HD-DVD capablilty on a regular DVD-5 has pretty much flown under the radar.

I can so relate to you right now. I thought I had finished a sequence just the other day when I decided to check it at 1 AM. Ofcourse the rendered files were gone and the deadline was in the morning! I had to peicemeal the program back together from previously saved project files then export a self contained file. A re render would have taken four hours with all the filters.

That said, the mixed timeline and Pro Res developments are a godsend. This is not a 5.5 release in my opinion but that’s because I use those features so much now.

Great find Oliver. Unfortunately the statement “After the original sequence has been been re-rendered, it will stay rendered after you quit Final Cut Pro and re-open the project” is just not true. I’ve re rendered my original timeline many times just to discover that it became unredered again. Oh well. I’m sure they are working on it.

I know that one cannot do this with Black Magic- you must use the BR-HD50 deck and then you still need to use RS-422.

Just thought that I would add that I too have this same problem.

But here is the kicker. Sometimes I start my day and I check the timeline to make sure nothing has become unrendered during the night. At the end of the day I discover that the beginning of my timeline had in fact become unrendered but the “render bar” indicates it’s rendered. If I play it I get the blue “unrendered screen”. So now I can’t just go back and grab a saved project because all my day’s work will not be there. I guess I could save as another project and then go get the earlier project and then stitch the two together but dammit! My head starts to hurt!

The renerd files are right there on the scratch drive but they won’t link up! AAARRGH!

Are you wanting to use component because you want to capture live? If yes then it’s a great solution- and you can capture 1080i or 720p with the Multi Bridge.

If your using component for tape ingest then it certainly will not be as clean as a firewire transfer.

Havent got my hands on the HZ-13CA yet but I’ll be sure to pick one up as soon as I win the lottery. Actually as soon as I get some downtime I’ll rent one with some nice lenses and see what the 200 is really capable of.
