I have posted this question on the FCP board over at apple yesterday morning and as yet have no answers.

in the Whitepaper: HDV workflow seen at the following link AJA hint that it may be possible to use firewire as device control whilst capturing footage via component video.

    https://www.aja.com/html/support_konaLHe_doc.html

this is specifically a JVC questionas we are trying to use our HD251 as a deck but as we are capturing our HDV footage as SD through our KONA we have no device control and no timecode!!!!

Anyone know if it is actually possible to use firwire for device control whilst capturing through a different means?

Thanks in advance for any pointers at all.

I know that one cannot do this with Black Magic- you must use the BR-HD50 deck and then you still need to use RS-422.

    thanks for the pointer.

I don’t understand why AJA would hint at it being possible if it isn’t.

I’ll continue my search but looks like getting a deck is the only way.. plus it’s abviously the correct way too. I don’t like using the camera as a deck, not good for anyone or anything concerned!

    Thanks for your input.
