I’m not sure I’d say “stupid April Fools”, clever, yes. Aren’t most of the things mentioned what we all want?

Very cruel April Fool’s joke. I love the line about one drawback – it will no longer be able to shoot stills.

  • [Jared Flynn] “he assignments reset to whatever the original order happened to be coming from the source.”

So if I understand, you have a timeline with mulitple tracks of audio (1-4) and source footage with 4 channels. You want the configuration something like…

    Source>Timeline
    A3>A1
    A4>A2
    A1>A3
    A2>A4

And each time you load a clip in the source window, it defaults back to
    A1>A1
    A2>A2, etc.

Avid will look at each track and see which are activated. If tracks A1, A2, A7 & A8 are activated in the timeline, the clip will load as follows…
    A1>A1
    A2>A2
    A3>A7
    A4>A8

I don’t know of a way around that.

Interesting. And you can’t transcode to DNxHD. What format did you select when you imported the clips? I would just import the clips at DNxHD220. Depending on the length of the program, this may be prohibitively huge during the rough cuts, but something I would consider.

I haven’t had any issue adding effects to clips (DNxHD145, or 220).

I also saw your post about audio and will comment to that.

    Hey Jared,

Just a few questions to point in the right direction. So the footage is HDV, correct? Is he using AMA to link to the clips, or has he imported them into his project? What are the project settings?

    Doug,

You can search the Cow on this topic, there’s lots of great comments.

I’ve been using Retrospect and LTO-4 and it works great. Quantum just announced release of LTO-5 – huge increase in capacity. I’m sure they will make modules that can drop into their automated machines.

    Aza,

I generally lasso all the tracks at one time. Alternately, you can use Segment Mode (the big red arrow at the bottom of the timeline – my keyboard is mapped to Shift-x) and select individual clips.

Keep in mind that you can’t move clips that are not consecutive in the timeline. For instance, clip A and clip C can’t be moved without also selecting clip B. And if you have any filler or empty spaces between clips that also needs to be selected.

Jason, yup. You’re good to go.

I’ve use this same set-up for many file based projects, incl XDCam discs, P2.

  • Problem solved. I had an older version of XDCam Transfer. Needed 2.9 or later.

    See thread here if interested.

Andy, Thanks for your super quick response. Sony website is interesting. I followed another link provided on the Cow a couple weeks ago and did not see the newer versions of this software I see with your link.

This solved my problem. Life is good again. Thanks.
