Greg, I hear ya and am in the same boat. Unfortunately, this is the world we live in right now. Fear is strong and many companies don’t want to rock the boat even though the courts have said the mandate is not enforceable. I lost a similar job to this. It would have required flying (which I’ve done many times in the last year) and working with a contracted crew. The end client required the Producer to be vax’d and therefore I lost out on multiple days of work.

My personal stance is that I make medical decisions based on medical facts. Unfortunately, many won’t agree with us.

  • I’m curious what you ended up with and how your experience has been. Did you go with a 5700 XT, and i7 or i9?

It’s not a downloader, but allows you to capture the screen. Search OBS Project. I’ve been hesitant to download any of the ‘free’ download tools but this one has received good reviews and works well. Only issue I’ve had recording from YT is the ending when pop-ups appear.

    Hi Joy,
Yes, that is rather annoying. I could not find a solution for this issue and have switched to a more “standard” mouse. I also found that the sensitivity around the edges of the mouse made erratic movements.

Maybe someone else has found a solution to your problem.
    Sorry. Take care.

March 19, 2014 at 6:09 pm in reply to: Replace clip in sequence, keep transitions. Possible?

I found this discussion when searching for the “Replace clip” keyboard shortcut. Coming from Avid and FCP, I find myself using the mouse A LOT more than I prefer.

The one feature that is really nice is that Premiere keeps the attributes of the replaced clip. So, when the client provides a new graphic, in this case a bug that moves from screen left to screen right, all the keyframes are still there. Like it.

I know I could also use the “Replace Clip” option, but I already had the clip imported so I didn’t go that route.

    Sandy,

I also like to use the Comments column for adding details. It doesn’t show up unless you already have a comment. So here’s what I do.

Change view to “Script” and name a note in the box. Then go to the Columns view like Michael mentions and you will see Comments. After hitting OK, you can move columns around so Comments appears right after Color, or any other column. Then Save it and call it whatever you like. My favorite is “Don’t Click Here”

April 3, 2012 at 5:35 pm in reply to: Using markers to match frame

Frederic, there isn’t a built in “snap to” function, but here is work around. Let’s say you have two locators on two video clipe (V1 and V2). Trim the V2 clip to the locator. While trimming if you hold the Command key (CTRL) your cursor will snap to the closest edit or locator.

Then move your position bar to the locator on V1, and drag V2. Again, while holding CMD, the clip will snap to the position bar. Then move the trim back out for V2.

    Hope that helps.

March 6, 2012 at 3:28 am in reply to: What’s up with filler not being being black?

“and you had to worry about safe levels”

Yeah, and can you believe cameras still have an iris? Ridiculous.

Job posted a good article about video levels and how Avid handles them. You may want to create a black image, save it to your desktop and then import it (with super black levels) for each project.

Instead of Right-clicking you can add the function – Clip>Render -In-Out to your keyboard. You can also add Expert Render In-Out. Two useful options.

February 28, 2012 at 10:38 pm in reply to: travelling to thailand

We shot/edited in Phuket, Thailand (southern island) last year. Very little gear and traveled light. We did not have a carnet and had no issues, but if you are bringing a camera larger than an HVX-200, I would recommend getting a carnet. They can be a pain to process, but it covers your butt.

We rented lights locally and, while we had some issues with deposits, they were very responsive and it all worked out fine.

We got visas through the company we were working for.

    Hope that helps a little.
