My bad. That’s an Avid AVC-Intra codec. I found this link to a set of Avid codecs that may help. https://codecs.org.ua/codecs_en.html – Search for “avin” since there is a lot on that page.

    Hope that helps.

Never heard of AVin. Are you sure someone didn’t change the extension? Is it an AVI file?

If you downloaded and installed the Avid codecs, contacting someone with an Avid system isn’t going to get you any further.

[alec gitelman] “Is there anything I can do to make it better?”

Transcode. Clear space on your drive and let it start tonight. Not a fun solution with 8-9 hours, but it would be even worse if it was H.264.

I never use the sliders – I find slamming in a number much easier. I miss being able to hide the sliders. Less is more, but I don’t see a way of doing that.

February 14, 2012 at 2:55 am in reply to: Creating an Editing Schedule….projects are piling up

Grant, Time management is one of the biggest challenges for us all. Glen makes a good point regarding bringing someone else in. If they can do a job in 1/2 the time you might spend on it, that’s money in your pocket. [And editing for 20 minute intervals doesn’t get you far. 🙂 ]

The first thing to calculate is how long a project is going to take. If you plan on editing two days and it takes you four, then projects will back up and you will get frustrated. If the computer isn’t working, take a calendar and draw lines through the shoot days. Follow that with a different color line for edit days. Mark down actual time spent. Do this for a month and re-evaluate the progress. Make adjustments where needed.

I agree with Ricky – go fishing. Even ice fishing.

I can’t address the error you are having, but as a workaround, why not export a short clip (say 1 or 2 minutes) and loop when making the DVD. Either with an End Action pointing to the same file or loopable DVD. I realize there is lag when looping on playback of a DVD, but I don’t think you would have that problem with an end jump.

February 3, 2012 at 7:09 pm in reply to: Is Squeeze utterly unusable?

A punch in the gut would probably feel better than the pains you have experienced. I laughed.

I have used Squeeze for years, on both PC and Mac. Seems to work pretty well. We make WMV files for corporate clients all the time. I agree that activating can be a pain, and depending on settings, it can take a while. But some encoding on Compressor can take a long time as well. Apple has a pretty good job of optimizing its programs for its hardware.

January 31, 2012 at 4:53 am in reply to: AVID: Copy media from timeline to new project?

Yes. You have a couple options. Look in Avid help for which might work best for your situation. Consolidate or Decompose.

Select the timeline you want to use and Right-Click>Consolidate/Transcode or Decompose (instead of right-click, from Clip menu).

If you need more details as to how these two different options work, let us know.

Hey Dave, Not sure I can address the 4 monitor question – I always work on two, with a separate program monitor fed via an outside box. Versions ago, I had issues with the Marquee Title tool not working because the installed video card was not supported. This may be your case – I don’t know if your system is qualified by Avid.

As far as the workspace issue, see the link below.
