The non Mac , non-efi nvidia gpus do not show screen until the os is fully loaded. When using these cards sa processing units for resolve, this is not an issue. But if using it as a GUI, it can be a bit of a hassle if something goes wrong. My point was that you want a native card (I.e gt120 or ati card) to run the GUI, and a 580 without any monitors to execute processing, Additionally, if you have a monitor connected to your graphics card resolve is unable to effectively use it as a CUDA processor. Which seriously hinders performance.

    Don,

I have to say I’m finding the same things. I had a highlights reel project come in last week. I’ve done these a thousand times before and can turn one out with my eyes closed. So I figured it would be good to try and do it in fcpx. It seems to me the “pedigree” of X denotes it’s limitations. Logging and assembling was a true pleasure. Lightning fast. But as soon as I started polishing. Adding transitions making some l-cuts. It just became an unreliable mess.

Seems to me that this could have been a great stand alone product. If they had just stuck to what Randy Ubillos had envisioned… “First Cut Pro” would be a great editing tool.

    Too bad.

Sorry to hear about your troubles… I’m right there with you.

Thanks for sharing Barrie. Just for reference what size is your GUI monitor?

Sounds like you need to get a new GUI card.

External monitoring in fcpx is not officially supported in snow leopard. Seems to require lion os hooks.

Richard is right. I would just add that what I meant by “CPU manage the RAID” was that if you create a software RAID in DIsk Utility, it will be a software raid managed by the OS and taxing your CPU. It’s better to offload the RAID processing to a dedicated raid controller card such as your ATTO. And RAID5 is a significantly better choice if available.

Perhaps the newest nvidia drivers and update Duda will help?
