February 16, 2011 at 11:41 pm in reply to: Sync problem with BMD Micro Videohub

So to answer some of your questions.

-For PAL SD that will switch on VBI line 6.
-For the Reference any bi-level signal (for SD) will work. So you could use video from a player, but blackburst is recommended.

The most important part of this equation is that the source and the hub be on the exact same reference. If they are off, it will cause problems.

From what I can see with the Soloist SDI it does not have a reference in. So I would assume that you are using the composite out of the Soloist to lock the video hub. However because you are using SDI out o the soloist for video I am not sure if those two sources are in perfect sync as there is a Digital to Analog conversion that must be done to achieve Composite out on that unit.

Further more because I don’t see a reference in on that device i would not assume that device can be locked with a sync gen.

I’m guessing your problem is in there. In which case you could use the entire setup without reference, but you’d have to potentially wait a bit longer for the route to happen.

Final thought: I’m not sure when you sent your request to support, and I’m assuming you sent it to our European office, but it might take a day or two to get a response.

    I hope that helps.

February 16, 2011 at 7:25 pm in reply to: don’t put 6 Gig SATA drives in your HP PC’s

    Thanks Bob,

That is really odd. Even if the SATA controller is just a SATAII 3Gb controller (which I believe it is), the drives SHOULD step down nicely and just run happily at 3Gb.

The fact that it doesn’t is disturbing as I would imagine that eventually the SATAII drives will start to dry up in favor of the SATAIII drives.

I will ping my buddy at HP and see what he can tell me on this issue.

February 16, 2011 at 7:17 pm in reply to: Capturing doesn’t stop at end-time

Odd…what app are you using to capture? In most apps you are either capturing a timecode range or crash capture. If you’ve got a timecode marked clip (with a timecode stripe that is not broken) then the capture be it in Media Express 2 or Premiere Pro will stop when the clip has finished capturing.

If you simple click to capture in the app it will not stop just because the tape runs out.

Are you using a different app that supports a “capture time limit” function?

February 16, 2011 at 7:14 pm in reply to: Micro Videohub cant change settings

There’s no factory reset outside of forcing a firmware flash.

The micro hub can be setup in one of two ways. Either using its ethernet and onboard server, or using USB and a computer for the server.

Most of the times if the label settings are greyed out then it indicates that the software client is not connecting to the server (be it on board or on a PC connected via USB). So you must make sure that the IP address in the client server configuration is pointed to the IP address of the server device (again, be it the hub via ethernet or server via USB).

That would be the first thing I check. Also remember that if you are using ethernet and the onboard server that you must make sure you know the IP…you can use DHCP to give it an IP, but i HIGHLY recommend a static IP (if you are using USB and a server, I recommend the server be on a static IP too as dynamic IPs can roll on ya).

Also make sure that the client versions are the same version that came with the firmware that you used. That is to say that you should run the firmware that came with the software version you want to run. Example of a conflict would be if you never updated the firmware but updated the software client….this could be a problem.

If you’ve checked those things and are sure that’s NOT the issue then there may be something else going on with the unit and I would recommend you give us a call (call your nearest local BMD office) to see if we can do some more troubleshooting and if there is an issue with the unit itself we can setup a replacement.

    I hope this helps.

  • Unfortunately the board has to be invoked into capture mode for this to work for you to get any sort of input/output.

However, using our media express 2 app, you could run it in the background (non focused).

There’s a “But”. The down hardware converter only works for playback from a timeline. In order to capture down/up converted signals it uses a software converter. And this does NOT effect the E-E output.

So unfortunately it means using the board in the manner you wish is not possible. However an Up/Down/Cross converter would do that quite nicely for you as would several other inline converters.

    I hope that helps.

February 16, 2011 at 6:47 pm in reply to: Question for those who own a DeckLink HD Extreme 3D+

There is no NTSC Progressive capture preset in the traditional sense. It does have the ablitity to remove 3:2 pull down on footage that is sent to the device as 24p as 59.94. You will need to use the A frame selection tool in the Processing tab of the Blackmagic Control panel. But this requires the use of timecode and therefore will only work if RS422 device control is connected. Which obviously requires a card that supports RS 422 (Decklink HD Extreme 3D+ does).

3D capture MUST be from a 3D source. If the clocks are off on two different devices they will not capture properly.

You can playback the 3D footage to a 2D monitor if you like, but you will see split screens out of aspect. Depending on how you set the control panel you will see left/right, top/bottom, or Interleaved.

That board in particular also supports HDMI 1.4 so if you have an HDMI 1.4 TV/Monitor you can send the signal to the monitor frame packed.

  • Hello,

Unfortunately this feature of the SDK only works on Decklink SDI, Decklink Optical fibre and Decklink Duo.

We’ve gotten a number of requests for this feature to be added to other cards but if/when we are going to do that has yet to be decided.

    I hope that helps.

Yeah, that screenshot looks good. We’ve had a few requests to be able to alter the intensity of the scans rendered. So hopefully that will be something we can add in the future.

January 27, 2011 at 11:21 pm in reply to: Dell no longer supported for Intensity Pro/Shuttle?

It’s more of a general statement. We will still try to do all we can to support the customer.

Dells have been a problem with us in the past because there is no way to get to any engineering resources in case of a conflict. They will also many times change hardware components in the same model of machine. So as an outdated example a two dimension 4400’s 6 months a part will very likely have completely different components.

And this statement is more heavily targeted at the server lines which are missing a setting we need to work properly.

    So..it’s an overly generalized statement.

My recomendation. Buy with caution and thoroughly vet one of these machines before buying more of them.

Most of the times the problems Dell users experience are the same as any other home built system might. So in that vein we do our best to diagnose the problem before we say it’s not compatible

January 27, 2011 at 11:16 pm in reply to: Dip Switch’s on Sync Generator – UNCLEAR

Next to the number 1 is printed ON. Next to the ON is a down arrow. Any dipswitch in the DOWN position is considered ON.

So to be clear. If the unit is sitting on a desk. And you are looking at the TOP of the unit (where it says Sync Generator). Any dip switch flipped DOWN is ON.

    I hope that clarifies.
