The motion effect has a strobe effect. To make it hold, do a freeze frame. You don’t get keyframable motion FX until you hit Media Composer…

Mojo actually takes over a lot of the heavy lifting in the video processing department. If you can afford it now, do it.

Buy from an Avid authorized reseller. Unless you have extensive knowledge on deep-level troubleshooting, building your own system can cause major headaches. There are those smarter than I who’ve done it, and it is certainly possible to do. I have better things to do than tweak OS and hardware issues. A reseller will set it up, and guarantee the machine will work. It will cost more in the short term, but at the end of the day, you’ll be glad you did.

I’ve not used BWF’s before, but I recall somewhere there being a post about them and timecode issues – maybe it was the broadcast forum? From what I understand, TC should come in with the file… Try searching the COW and see what comes up.
As far as quality, I’ve not noticed a difference. It’s always been a huge knock on MOJO, but I honestly cannot tell the difference. At the end of the show, when you’ve got music from CD’s and nat sound from tape, I just dont hear it. Then again, maybe I’ve burned out my ears with my Strat and a Marshall loud enough to polish my boots… The biggest problem I’ve had with audio are the line converters. We’ve continually used old equipment lying around, and I think I’ve burned through 3 since installing that particular Avid. Oh, and if you are using materiel with different sample rates, make sure you set the Avid to transcode on import (settings / audio project). It eliminates some of those “WHAT THE…” moments when your done and trying to get it out!

Are you using some else’s settings, or maybe someone is playing a joke? Check setting>keyboard and see what’s mapped there. Try remapping a play button there.
If that doesn’t work, try trashing your MCState buttons (C:/Program files/Avid/Avid express Pro/Settings)

You’ll need to convert the audio to an RCA (unbalanced?) connection. There are boxes made by blackbox among others. The time code comes in through an RS-422 converter (Rosetta Stone comes to mind, but there are others) plugged into the serial port.

My point about your destination is this; watching interlaced footage on progressive (computer monitor) will always accetuate the scan lines (of course, I’m sure you knew that). Try bringing you I-Frame rate down to 6, and keep your data rate no higher than 4500 for starters. If you are using Sorenson, it automatically removes interlacing. Create a filter to NOT deinterlace.
