Red jagged Text/curves
Hi,
I have seen this problem on creativecow, and on the internet, but I can’t find a solution. Here is my back story and what I’ve done thus far.
I created 2 compositions. 1) 720×480 and 2) 720×486 (just to test and make sure it wasn’t my ration). Both were the exact same composition. My compostion had red text and red curves. I render it out using the “best” settings, “lower (even) field first” and render. I have used the Animation codec, and the Avid Meridian codec. My rendered quicktime animation looks great. When I import it into the avid, everything that is curved and red like if I’m using red text is jagged. My text looks great, unless it’s stroked by a red color. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I refuse to believe that I have to tell my clients that they can not have red in any of the projects! I also refuse to believe there isn’t a work around, different codec, or way to render that will fix this. I will also post this message in the After Effects creative cow forum. JessePlease don’t hesitate to contact me if you need further details about import/export settings, render settings or whatever… in order to solve this. I will post my results and hopefully my fix to the site as soon as I get/come up with one!

Could it be a 8 bit / 10 bit thing? What is your setting?

what codec are you using to render out – I’d suggest trying a targa sequence with no compression. What resolution are you importing at?Do you have an alpha channel, if so render out the fill unpremultiplied. If the sequence has motion then switch motion blur on, depending on the nature of the material, can you blow out just a matte and then create the fill within avid? Try switching the field order, certain codecs can interpolate lines incorrectly..

Also, make sure your red is legal.

Good morning, thank you for the help.
I tried two codecs 1) Avid Meridian compressed and 2)the animation codec, set to best (100)
I also tried rendering a small portion of the video to a jpeg sequence. Is rendering to a targe sequence the same thing?
I imported at 720×486. I also imported a version at 720×480.
No alpha channel.
I had motion blur on in the render cue, but I didn’t have it turned on any of the layers in my AE project.
That’s a good suggestion about the field order. I’ll definitately try that when I get into the office today.
