Why not go to eBay and get some Avid 160 LVD drives? I’ll bet they are pretty cheap. If you go with something new, you won’t get the advertised data rate – you’ll only go as fast as the slowest part of your SCSI chain. Medea drives are certified with Meridian, and are approved for the Avid…
Those Meridians, stable as they were, are notoriously picky about the hardware hooked up to them.

I don’t work with HD, but I suspect your footage is being downconverted. Normal firewire is 400mbs/sec, and FW800 is, well, 800mbs/sec.
I believe the data rate for HD is signicantly higher.
BTW, I’d suggest you open a new thread to ask this question. The person who knows the answer to this question may not scan this far down to see.

You can’t get rid of it. I’m not sure I understand the issue, but if you hold down the control key (command on the mac) whilst clicking anywhere near your cut, it will put the solid blue line at the head, or first frame, of the clip. you can then mark your clip. If you are trying to mark the clip prior to the blue line, back up one frame and hit ‘T’ to mark your clip.
If you look at it this way, the dashed blue line is a visual representation of a frame. You can’t put a mark in the middle of the frame, and there has to be some sort of consistency to where the marks are put. Avid always puts the mark in to the left of the blue line. Keep that in mind, and hopefully this helps. That’s why, when typing the number of seconds you want using the keypad, you have to type in 29 to get 1:00 of video from the in point. To get 1:00 of video from an out point, you type in 30.

I think the reason the specs seem so vauge for Mac is the fact you don’t have many choices when you order.

Wait. I just upgraded my Meridian Mac system to Windows 95. I’m able to do fully compressed HD at 360X240, 15FPS. Seems to work fine… I can’t wait ’til my Win2K edition gets here from ebay. I hear it supports that new youtube format – I can’t wait to see my work on America’s Funniest Videos….
Seriously, it would be nice to hear from an Avid insider regarding the future. I’m about to drop some cash on a new edit system, and our small company has 3 systems to maintain (2 XPress Pros and the aforementioned Meridian). We’ve invested not only money, but effort into maintaining a skill set amongst the crew. Seems silly to have so much time invested in a system, and then go and buy something else, but…

When you replaced the SCSI card, specifically what brand?
Those systems were notoriously picky regarding hardware. I’m pretty sure you need an ATTO UL3 SCSI card (check the one that came out of the machine). You may have to do an ebay purchase, but make sure its the same type of card.
