OK so here’s an easy one. It has to do with the position bar in the timeline, or one might call it the time indicator, or even the CTI. You know how when you zoom way into a sequence the blue time indicator/or position bar has one solid line and immediately 1 frame later has a dashed line? How do I get rid of that dashed line? I only want one line for my time indicator. I know this sounds lame but I use the mark clip, “the T key” all the time and because this dashed line follows my time indicator it ALWAYS marks one extra frame. I can’t stand it! Thanks.

You can’t get rid of it. I’m not sure I understand the issue, but if you hold down the control key (command on the mac) whilst clicking anywhere near your cut, it will put the solid blue line at the head, or first frame, of the clip. you can then mark your clip. If you are trying to mark the clip prior to the blue line, back up one frame and hit ‘T’ to mark your clip.

If you look at it this way, the dashed blue line is a visual representation of a frame. You can’t put a mark in the middle of the frame, and there has to be some sort of consistency to where the marks are put. Avid always puts the mark in to the left of the blue line. Keep that in mind, and hopefully this helps. That’s why, when typing the number of seconds you want using the keypad, you have to type in 29 to get 1:00 of video from the in point. To get 1:00 of video from an out point, you type in 30.

    Does that make sense?
