I’m new with editing widescreen resolution in Avid. I’ve been working with Final Cut Pro lately but I just recently purchased the Avid for my home business. I’m taking my video straight out of my HD sony handycam. Works well in the SD mode, but it squishes the widescreen to full screen. Any ideas??? I know it’s a setting thing, or maybe a video card thing. I’m not as concerned with editing everything in HD YET… because I can’t burn HD DVD’s yet. Thanks, Joshua

Right click on either the source or record window and select 16:9.

ok here’s another question. I’m capturing my footage from my sony HD 1080i mini DV camcorder through firwire… can I get the HD footage to the computer from firewire? Or do i have to capture it from SD?

I don’t work with HD, but I suspect your footage is being downconverted. Normal firewire is 400mbs/sec, and FW800 is, well, 800mbs/sec.

I believe the data rate for HD is signicantly higher.

BTW, I’d suggest you open a new thread to ask this question. The person who knows the answer to this question may not scan this far down to see.
