Check your system specs according to the matrix from Avid. You say you are using QT 7.3.1, but that’s not qualified even for the latest version (5.8.3). Belive me, even a X.X.1 release of Qucktime can cause problems. Make sure you are running the correct OS as well.

[DeWayne Kostrzewski] “I use liquid 7.2”
I don’t use Liquid, but I’ll try to answer your questions from the perspective of an Avid editor….

[DeWayne Kostrzewski] “is going to be made in SD, so I was wondering if I cam add more then 480lines”

SD (standard definition) is what it is. You can’t add lines of resolution. I suppose you could up rez your footage, but doing that to SD footage is, IMHO, is a waste of time.

[DeWayne Kostrzewski] “I need it to play on most all DVD players.”

Burning your project onto DVD-R media will ensure it plays on the majority of players. You will find the older the player, the more problems the client will have. When we first delivered on DVD, we bought an LCD DVD player – LCD meaning ‘lowest common denominator’. Also, if this is the beginning of a process for you, stick with the same media. I use Ritex 8X inkjet printable discs.

[DeWayne Kostrzewski] “I have a ATI x1900 video card, Is that good enough to get high quality DVDs?”

The video card only affects capture. It really has nothing to do with the final product.

Are you running the correct OS? Quicktime? What deck are you using?

  • You’ve got 1 deck hooked up to multiple Avids? How is the deck being controlled (RS-422 or firewire)? How is the control signal routed (patch panel, router)? If you put your disk in the deck (man that sounds weird, like pb&j in the VCR), can you see the video signal?

I got these on a non-unity MC12 Meridian system. Mine turned out to be a USB hub. I took it off and life was good. Fortunately, there was a USB port in the keyboard.

  • Can you control the deck at all? Does it work with other projects?

There’s no reason it shouldn’t work. If you are upgrading, I would back up everything in your project file to a seperate disk and store if far from your CPU. That should keep the edit gremlins confused just long enough.

I’ve found it great for going to different systems, and I’ve found it gives me the cleanest video.

    Rob –

I noticed from an earlier post you were running a card Avid doesn’t qualify – did you get a new card? Have you tried exporting your sequence to see if the change shows up in your final delivery format?

I use the animation codec exclusively. It comes in pretty quick – I’m usually importing :30 seconds in less than 2 minutes.
