This is almost the exact same effect I used in my Texture Packs promo video (the very first scene).

    https://www.precomposed.com/products/texture_packs/

I used Trapcode Particular Plugin for the dust/smoke effect, although I’m sure a similar result could be achieved with CC Particle World (which comes with after effects). It requires scaling up and blurring out the particles (lots of particles), using the proper blending mode, and even applying a curves adjustment for a more realistic look. With the trapcode particular plugin, it makes it easy to tweak the velocity, air resistance, etc… When the title hits, the particles will have an extremely high velocity as they shoot out, but will run into a great deal of air resistance. It will take lots of tweaking to get it right. Good Luck.

January 25, 2009 at 8:17 pm in reply to: Particle Palyground help (Make Transparent?)

You don’t place the particle playground effect on your footage. You create a new solid ABOVE your footage, and apply the particle playground effect to the solid. Hopefully this resolves your issue.

January 25, 2009 at 8:11 pm in reply to: Best output format for titles????? help greatly needed.

The quicktime format using Animation codec @ 100% is a good choice for titles (not as good for video footage). If it looks washed out after rendering, it is usually the way quicktime player displays it (and won’t look that way when brought into another application). If it looks washed out after rendering (black levels look off), let me know and I can explain how to fix it.

Yes you can create HD menus, but only for a Blu-ray Project. You must have CS3 or above for this feature.

January 24, 2009 at 6:47 pm in reply to: can’t focus on a layer

An easy way to figure out the focal point is to increase the aperture extremely high (to around 2000) and then slide the ‘focus distance’ around (while holding down shift) until it comes into focus. Once in focus, you can decrease the aperture back down to its original amount.

January 24, 2009 at 1:39 am in reply to: layered psd menus…any better in encore than dvdsp?

I disagree with the other responses you have received. Layered PSD integration is MUCH better with Encore. It supports layer styles, layer masks, multiple layers for individual buttons and a much better way of creating buttons and highlight layers. Of course the DVD spec doesn’t support more than 3 different colors for a single button highlight, so that hasn’t changed… but the integration is far superior.

The Trapcode Plugins by Red Giant Software (especially Trapcode Particular) are a great set to buy if you want to get started. But it also depends on what kind of effects you will be creating most often. Research different plugins and see which ones stand out to you, which ones you could use in a lot of your projects. As for the Red Giant Software plugins, often times other sites will be offering specials (like 50% off!) so be sure to do your research.

January 22, 2009 at 6:12 am in reply to: lens flare – grow bounds…

Is there a reason you are applying it to a 3D layer? Because it wasn’t designed for that and it will look very strange (distorted) if the camera moves around it and its on a 3d layer. Try applying it to a 2D layer or even an adjustment layer. You could then use expressions/techniques discussed in this forum to track it to a 3D null object so it appears as if the lens flare has a 3D position, even though its on a 2D layer.
