Best output format for titles????? help greatly needed.
Hi,
This is my first visit to the forum and v glad i found this place, going to be very helpfull.Im a newcomer to After effects CS4, ive followed some tutorials with great success and everything looks amazing, i have tried in a couple of formats to render the project but the finished item just does not look as good as the preview window in AE CS4l
The end product looks lacking clarity and colour??? Ive followed tutorials using Riot gear files, im creating 3D intro titles.
Would greatly appreciate some help, i have searched the FAQ which have helped with some things, just cant find anything that points towards the best format for outputting 3D or any titles without losing the clarity and colour.

To maintain quality, minimize compression. Some Quicktime options are:
– Animation codec, 100% or slightly less
– Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2
– Photo-JPEG… but with less compression, you have higher quality, but are less likely to play the movie back without skipping.
So. Once you render these titles, what do you want to do with them? Play them back as a final deliverable (playability important), or import them into another application for further processing (quality important)?

I have made 3D animated titles with camera moves, approx 5-12 seconds long. I want to render them to a file that can be played back at anytime or used as titles/credits when video editing.
Quality is paramount as it seems pretty pointless to sit and work on some animated titles and fine tuning everything so they look amazing only to get a total drop in quality when rendering to a file.

The quicktime format using Animation codec @ 100% is a good choice for titles (not as good for video footage). If it looks washed out after rendering, it is usually the way quicktime player displays it (and won’t look that way when brought into another application). If it looks washed out after rendering (black levels look off), let me know and I can explain how to fix it.

Thank you for helping, for some reason it will not let me choose the quicktime format???? i do have quicktime installed.
I have just rendered using the windows media 720p hd setting using the microsoft media 9 encoder, it has come out exactly as it looks in AE CS4 and looks amazing.
Just have to see now how well the file transports into other applications.
I am curious though why i cannot choose the quicktime option???

Did you select composition>make movie? It is the preferred way to render. You then choose something like Lossless for the Output Module, then under Format Options, choose the codec.
File>Export is generally for non-Quicktime rendering.
