  • lens flare – grow bounds…

    Hi There,

I’m I’ve built a lens flare and put it within a 3d comp (comp with camera) but the flare keeps getting cut off. I’ve tried using grow bounds, but it just makes the actual flare bigger. I don’t want the flare to be bigger, rather I’d like the fall off from the flare to go beyond the edges of the solid to which it was applied.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Is there a reason you are applying it to a 3D layer? Because it wasn’t designed for that and it will look very strange (distorted) if the camera moves around it and its on a 3d layer. Try applying it to a 2D layer or even an adjustment layer. You could then use expressions/techniques discussed in this forum to track it to a 3D null object so it appears as if the lens flare has a 3D position, even though its on a 2D layer.

Thanks for the tips. I ended up just putting a feathered mask around the flare, which made the edges of the solid almost unnoticeable.

The pixel aspect ratio in the solid settings needs to be 1:1 (square pixels) some of the other aspect ratios work as well but the square pixels work for sure.
