Perhaps changing from hardware render to software. See if that clears it up.

I would presume your video and timeline was 8 bit, and MP4 is a lossy, compressed, final delivery codec.

You would want to work in 10-bit for video and project, and output to a lossless codec.

First – are you using internal storage (the system drive) for your media? That’s not a good plan. It is a bad plan. So how are you accessing your 4K media? Or any of your media?

Second, what are your deliverables? If you are going to be delivering in HD, you could simply transcode to HD and edit on a 1080 timeline. Perhaps replace select shots with the 4K originals if you want to tweak framing and such.

If you are supposed to finish with a 4K master, then you are looking at a proxy workflow, and perhaps might be needing to plan for better media storage solutions, if that is a current issue.

If those iPod (you meant iPad, I am guessing) are variable frame rate, they will not cooperate. You would want to convert them to a robust codec/wrapper with a constant frame rate, then replace your iPad shots with the re-rendered constant frame rate versions.

The h.264 codec doesn’t appear to be an option with an MXF wrapper (not in Media Encoder, anyway. Codecs that do show up include DVCPro HD, XAVC Intraframe, AVC Intra, IMX, and XD-Cam. You may find one of these that will give you the bandwidth you are looking for, and still be readable by your systems.

The first thing I would immediately go to check is your track patching at the far left of the timeline.

If you were dragging to V2, for example, but it was not highlighted in the track patch, you would not be able to drop anything on the track.

Is that the source of your problem?

Just another point of view – what John has shared is perfectly valid.

With Warp Stabilizer, I stabilize and render clips out to a lossless codec at full rez, then import and edit with the rendered files. It takes just a little time, and for me at least, makes the edit go smoother.

Unless you go back and reset your timeline to have mono tracks, it might be simpler to simply make the mono track play as stereo.

In the Project/Bin panel, select your mono clip. Choose Clip > Modify > Audio Channels. In the Modify Clip dialog box, select Mono As Stereo, and then click OK. Note: You can apply the Modify Clip command to a mono clip only in the Project panel, before the clip appears in a Timeline panel. If you have already placed it in the timeline, you’ll need to place it again.
