Tad, it depends upon the source, but I have seen that too. Generally that audio has been [1] heavily compressed (leveling out the tops of the waveform, eliminating dynamics) and [2] normalized (“stretching” the entire waveform relative to loudest peaks, which were lost during compression, often to 0dBFS or maybe -1 dBFS.)

Pull a contemporary music track from YouTube and you’ll often see this. Tracks treated like this are a “wall of sound”.

    System:

    Win 7 64-bit
    32GB RAM
Adobe CC 2017.1 (as of 8/2017)
    256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from UHD MP4, HD MP4, and HD P2 MXF.

  • This may or may not apply in your situation.

If my audio clips are MP3’s, I routinely convert to WAV files in Audition prior to edit and use only WAV files in the edit.

In Premiere Pro, what your you audio hardware settings in Preferences?

In the good old tape capture days, sometimes you would need to select your outboard device for capture, but then switch to your on board audio card during edit. That would then disable output to your outboard monitor. With some devices you could not have both; it was either/or.

This is just a guess – hopefully someone smarter will chime in.

Your original project also contained data tracking for all preview files. Your 2019 version is no longer tracking the old preview files, since they are not there to track.

Never used Elements, so I can’t say much about the differences between it and Premiere Pro. But there is also no shortage of videos on YouTube if you search “Learning Premiere Elements” to help you get kicked off as well.

You can always open it in Audition first and get it the way you want it.

Alternatively, create some FX presets you can access in PPro that will help manage it.

Just click on the clip in question. You can also isolate what you affect on the timeline by changing the track selection patching (left end of timeline) or locking tracks to protect them (also left end of timeline).

  • 1 – I would have to check on the settings for the meters (not in front of my system right now). It could be the meters are set to display something other than the desired output, leading to confused visual results.

2 – Can’t answer why that is not the default.

3 – Your client is asking for reference tone at that level, not necessarily content at that level. I routinely mix content for -12dBFS without delivery issues. But if they indicate they want content at -20dBFS, just supply it.

    Dell Precision T7600 (x2)

  • No bug. If you want it do handle differently, right-click the clip in the bin and delect “Modify”. Go into audio and set it up how you want.

Keep in mind how you patch on the timeline will affect this as well. You may have four tracks of audio. But if you only have one track patched on the timeline, one track of audio is all you’ll get.

April 16, 2020 at 5:20 pm in reply to: Premiere Pro CC 2018 rendering options please?

If it were me, I’d try setting up the sequence to what I need for my final deliverable. That is, if I need a 1080i 29.97 finished product, that’s the sequence I’d create and work from there.

    That’s just me.
