Can you post the crash log here?

The Editmule app is doing something slightly different. It is removing filters from your project, which is not the same as actually removing the plugin files from your hard disk.
It is also removing ALL of them, it is not automatically detecting which ones are causing problems.
(P.S. Just for the record, FCS Maintenance Pack can automatically detect unstable plugins, but only if they are causing FCP to crash at startup. It will not detect them if they are causing random crashes in the middle of working.)

“A little wary of a black box solution, I went to user/library/caches/com.apple.fcp/cache.db and renamed it cacheBAK.db first, but this (dumping the cache after making a backup) did not correct anything.”
That’s just a network cache. Trashing it doesn’t do much.
Also, be aware that there are in fact three files you need to trash in order to properly trash preferences, which is why helper applications are advised over doing it manually.

You could probably do this with an extra dummy video track that plays back at a different rate, but you’d need to write your own application to do it. I don’t know of any apps that can do this because I’ve never heard anyone ask for it before.
But if you’ve been asked to produce a 30 second spot and try to cover up the fact that it’s longer, that’s dishonesty. Your client WILL notice and they will be very angry. If someone did that to me I would tell everyone I knew not to hire them.

Here’s a screenshot to show what I’m talking about. From looking at the file structure I can see that those files were originally located in /Library/QuickTime so all I need to do is drag them back there.

But you may find it easier just to reinstall Final Cut Studio.

What is a normal project exactly?

If you go to the Removed FCS Items folder in your trash, you can follow the file structure to see where the files were originally located.
For instance, if a file was located at /Users/myname/Documents/myfile.txt, it would be located at Removed FCS Items/Users/myname/Documents/myfile.txt.

I haven’t used the Mac App Store as a developer but I’ve submitted apps to the iOS App Store and it is certainly possible to charge for updates. Very few companies do this, presumably because they would be inundated with complaints for not making it free.
The Mac App Store works like iTunes in the sense that you can authorize up to 5 machines to run one user’s applications. I’m not quite sure how this works for large corporations – do they need multiple Apple IDs or can they purchase it multiple times from the same account?

– Crash analyzer …multible causes from “MPEG media” to “effects rendering”
to “Graphics card” to “Motion plugin”
to “corrupt font” to the infamous “UNKNOWN””If you get different reasons for each crash, this is usually a sign of much wider problems with your system. It could also mean that you are pushing FCP too hard.
