some (not all) of my templates, generators and titles within final cut pro x appear as a blue screen when i scroll over them or add them to the timeline. Once on the timeline, if i click on them they will cause fcp x to crash.

I am on an imac, i5, 8 gigs ram.

Are you telling us that XFCP has … (drumroll) … wait for it … (drumroll) … The Blue Screen of Death™?!

Something is definitely wrong on your machine – those things work for the rest of use.

Could you try creating a new user and seeing if the problem exists there too? Also, you might try trashing the prefs (boy, does this sound like FCP7 troubleshooting.)

    Hi Jeff,

The fcp x templates/generators are now working fine in new user account….thanks!

Does this mean i have to log into that account everytime i need to edit? Do you have any ideas of how i can make fcp x work properly in the main user account. Which prefs should i trash?

    thank you,

    John.

So, it’s not FCPX, it’s something wrong with your user.

Start by trashing the FCP prefs:
    Your user/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FinalCut.plsit
    com.apple.FinalCut.LSSharedFileList.plist

Trash the motion ones while you’re at it.

See if it works and report back!

Okay, I promise I’m not in the “Axe to Grind” category or anything, and this is strictly for humor, but this is too good an opportunity to pass up:

So we’re discovering that the one thing we’re now certain of in FCPX that works EXACTLY the same way it did in FCS3 is “Trash Your Preferences”?

    Aheh.

    Heh heh heh.

It’s all new – so I’m very much interested in solving this – even remotely. 😀

So there’s something that’s mucking it all up. And you’re going to get a bunch of ‘hey, try this’ from me. Hope we all can be patient (and learn) from this – there is no real roadmap (that I know of).

Could you launch MOTION 4 and then quit it and try again?

The more ‘hey, try this’ the better!!!! thx.

I have final cut studio 2 also installed…so i have fcp 6 and motion 3 etc. I launched motion 3 and then quit and started again…still no luck.

I know some of the problems with FCPX were with motion 4/5; I don’t know how Motion 3 acts with that…

So, my next suggestion? Hmm. Ok, how about a disk verify/repair and a permissions repair?
