It downloads an installer internally but this is invisible to the user and there are no parameters you can adjust. So from an end-user perspective it’s just like downloading any other application.

    My software:
Pro Maintenance Tools – Tools to keep Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro X, Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro running smoothly and fix problems when they arise
Pro Media Tools – Edit QuickTime chapters and metdata, detect gamma shifts, edit markers, watch renders and more
    More tools…

    Dyld Error Message:
    Symbol not found: _ValidateAudioChannelLayout
    Referenced from: /Library/QuickTime/QuickTimeComponents.component/Contents/MacOS/QuickTimeComponents
    Expected in: /System/Library/Frameworks/QuickTime.framework/Versions/A/QuickTime

This means that there’s a framework mismatch. There’s something wrong with your installation of QuickTime. It’s likely that you’ll need to reinstall OS X.

The FCPX 10.0.1 release notes said that they’d fixed some of the autosave bugs. Can you confirm if this data loss occurred with the newer version?

It works best when the codec and frame size remain the same. It’s primarily designed to catch gamma shifts when you roundtrip to another app.

We’ve got a tool called Quick Bins in our Pro Media Tools package. It’s not exactly the same as keyword collections but it’s a similar concept and it’ll work with FCP 7 and Premiere.

I gave a demo of it at LAFCPUG a couple of months back:

5k is IMAX resolution. It’s pretty big.

Effects favorites are stored in FCP preferences, so back those up to save the effects.

  • Motion 4 creates presets in the ~/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Studio/Motion folder. Could these presets have been created in an old standalone version of Motion before it became part of Final Cut Studio?

  • I’d be interested to know which file is causing this. The only file I have in that folder is located at Layouts/Modified/Default.moduleLayout. The other folders are all empty on my system.

  • I found some more caches. They’re hidden so try these Terminal commands to wipe them:

(Edit: it should go ~/Library/Application(backslash)(space)Support/Motion…etc. For some reason this forum filtered out the backslashes)

    rm ~/Library/Application Support/Motion/Library/.cache
    rm ~/Library/Application Support/Motion/Library/.fontmenuimages
    rm ~/Library/Application Support/Motion/Library/.TextStylePreviewCache.archive
