I think there has a been a misunderstanding with the way after effects and premiere pro work together here.
Pr does not have adjustment layers or solids and masks like after effects so it won’t build them when asking AE to export as Pr project.
You can either export the AE comp to a video file and import that to Pr or use dynamic link to import the AE comp to Pr.

Are you seeing the sane issue without the magic bullet effects?
I recall there being a problem with the magic bullet third party software. Which is not an Adobe problem but magic bullet.

An added problem with maintaining clarity for SD widescreen video is that is not sq pixel. The anamorphic nature of SD/DV means the quality will take a hit in that it is being stretched to make widescreen which will make it look poor on a computer, but not that bad on a tv.

Hey Bill,
The database will rebuild when you open the projects and reconnect the files. CS4 with latest updates will only need to find a couple of files to know where the others are. I doubt the CS3 database for CS4 work is really worth the effort. I have never copied over those files the entire CS range of my updated software. Don’t know if anyone recommends it… 😉

If you are getting DV splats too across cameras then there is mire than likely something wring with the tapestock. It possibly building up a static that creates a problem seemingly at random spots.

Dump the prefs file by holding down shift and alt while the apps boot up. You should notice the plugins load up taking a bit longer during the splash screen. Hold the keys down all the way through the app loads.

There is nothing to say the exported file extension needs to stay as mp4. If all you need us for it to open in QuickTime making the extension .mov diesnt change anything in the quality. But you need to do it manually to each clip. I have done this in the past for clients so all they need to do it open the file and the mov extensions opens it in QuickTime automatically.

I found back in the boom of DV that Sony tapes, even in song cams, were terrible. I shoot HDV on a Z1P and have done for years with Panasinic ONLY stock. The HDV range of stock aren’t any more bang for bang in my experience. I use the standard MiniDV Panasinic tapes and have never had a problem with them.
Capture problems may happen in HDV. Tapeless does appear to be a good option in comparison. Just got a HDSLR canon camera and an finding it very nice.
I do like having a tape as backup. Old thinking I guess.
