Hi Matt,

I just tested the keyer with a drop shadow under the keyer in the list of effects and it works as expected.

I don’t know why it would be behaving weirdly on your end? Do you have a “hacked” MPE GPU card using the Hardware MPE?

Otherwise try to nest the clip and add the shadow to the nest? You can right click on the clip and select Nest from the list for it to replace the clip in the timeline with the nested version.

Having so many sequences open with only 4 gig of RAM is most likely where your problem lies.

Techically PPro is only using 2.5 gig of that RAM. (1.5 gig is used for other apps and the OS). All the open sequences are using that RAM. Switching apps is using the RAM.

4gig is not enough. Is the problem.still there if you only have 3 or 4 sequences open?.

If you are using CS5 then i would suggest you use the Ultra Keyer effect instead. It is far superior to chroma key.

this happens when holding down the control button, i wonder if your control button is malfunctioning on your keyboard?

I have never seen this behaviour before.

Perhaps a dumping of the preferences. CS4 i think hold down shift while launching PPro until it reaches the spalsh screen to open a new project.

Otherwise a reinstall would be the way to go.

I do know cineform have a very intimate relationship with AJA.

Sadly it would seem apples approach to FCP has proved to have an in built expiry date. 🙁

Cineform codec is very versatile. Can be rewrapped to avi or mov for crossplatform happiness. 🙂

Hi Peter,

I know it appears to make sense that the prores codec be on your system that a capture path be available via premiere pro but the reason it doesn’t unheard outside of FCP is something you would have to take up with Steve Jobs staff.

And now that FCPX seems to be attempting to reinvent the wheel of what pro video is, there appears to be a lack of insight over there.

Bmd captures to bmd codecs, Aja have been locked into FCP for prores.

Cineform seem to the only players that happily work with IO across nle’s and platforms.

After re-reading your original post – the answer has been presented to you.

What you are asking is for the equivalent of the ctrl+v shortcut in FCP. whereby you make a cut to a clip in the timeline at the position of the playhead.

the way to do this in PPro is with Cmd+k (mac) or Ctrl+k (PC). This shortcut will only ‘cut’ on a clip in an active track.

To activate a track see that it is either dark or light grey. if it is light grey it is active, dark is deactive. select the track name to switch the active deactive state. to get all tracks active hold shift and then select a dark grey deactive track to get all tracks light grey active (for either video or audio – depending on what track you select).

holding shift and selecting a light grey active track will then make all tracks dark grey inactive. I have assigned short cuts to activate deactivate my tracks to shift and = for all video tracks active and shift and – for all video tracks deactive. for audio tracks I use the same combo’s but added the ctrl modifier key to them: so ctrl and shift and = activates all audio tracks.

its a long winded explanation but I hope it helps to ‘understand’ the concept behind the workflow.
