XDCAM mov files won’t import into Premiere
Posted by David Phifer on June 23, 2011 at 2:28 amI’m on a PC and I’m trying to import .mov files saved to a Sony card and it’s saying the codec is missing or unavailable. Premiere CAN import XDCAM files, is it possible that Sony saved it as a XDCAM Apple only codec? They’ve imported into Final Cut Pro for other people, just not my Premiere.
And if that’s the case that Sony saves the files as Apple only files, what can I do to get them to import into Premiere?

June 23, 2011 at 8:51 amDid you try bringing them in through the Media Browser? That’s the only way to bring in Sony MXFs successfully.

June 23, 2011 at 4:09 pmHey David, when you say “Media Browser” do you mean the plugin for Media Center like in this link?
https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/13752/getting-started-with-media-browser-for-windows-media-center/
I have never used the media center or the media browser plugin, but I will download it and see what it can do. If you mean something else when you say “Media Browser” please clarify and excuse my ignorance, I often feel I am incompetent and inadequate in this area.
I tried to bring the files into Adobe Encoder, and they won’t import. So I hope you mean the thing mentioned in the link.
Let me know if I’m understanding what you meant. Thanks David!

June 23, 2011 at 4:34 pmNo. The Media Browser is a Premiere panel. You can open it in the Windows menu (in Permiere) and drop in on any panel where it will become a tab. Use it for importing anything but especially P2 and Sony material.

June 23, 2011 at 8:22 pmOKay, I see what you’re talking about. I just used the media browser in Premiere but it still says the codec is missing or unavailabe, so nothing’s changed. Then I thought to reinstall quicktime, so I did that, and still no dice. The files still won’t import.

June 23, 2011 at 8:27 pmMaybe one of the Mac users here can point you in the right direction. I just know importing mxf XDcam material.

June 24, 2011 at 2:47 amHi there,
You might want to give this a try, I’ve used this with mov wrapped xdcam files. Premiere/AE/Encore etc can work with many MXF based ‘folder structure’ camera formats.

Hopefully this gets your sources in – I’ll tell you though that having to go through quicktime is less than ideal from a speed perspective.
Cheers,

June 24, 2011 at 9:23 amI think he meant to access the media files via their folder structure from the Media Browser Panel inside of PPro.

November 10, 2014 at 7:40 pmIt’s happening to me too? I have two identical setups Macbook pro’s. One allows proper import, the other says no audio or video feeds? Help!
