The playhead doesn’t function that way in PPro. Sounds like you are technically setting what would be like an IN and OUT marker range you want to remove from the edited seqeunce…

If so doing that with the extract key [‘] or button found down the bottom of the program panel which in CS5.5 does snap the playhead to the new edit point.

This is new to CS5.5 only so far. 🙂

  • Are you wanting to use them as proxies and an offline edit or for complete edit to end?

You could go with JPEG MOV files or high bit rate mpeg-2 CBR.

    Hi Matt,

The Quality of the Render depends on the codec being used to render a Preview, for preview purposes. Its a different way of working than with FCP whereby everything is perhaps converted to ProRes and so the timeline is also rendering to ProRes.

You can change the Preview Rendering Codec to something that better represents the final output you want. The way PPro leverages a systems ability to playback all the different codecs it can use natively means that “renders” for preview purposes outside of a 3rd Party (AJA BMD etc) are by default using an MPEG-2 codec at 50% Quality for playback ease. Exports go to the original source and come out with the best quality from the source not the “render file” unless you ask it to use the render files with a tick box in the Export Settings.

It’s a different way of working to FCP, and in my opinion having worked with FCP since its early day in 2001 I do find PPro a superior way to “work” and knowing the paths for export I find it less “rendering” as even though a clip in the timeline might be “RED” which means it can’t be played back at all in FCP, could still playback half OK without the need to render at all in PPro. I “work” way faster in PPro than in FCP as I don’t need to render anywhere near as much to see if something is ‘working’ or not. Final Playback to tape requires rendering, sure but I usually output a master file to match the “tape” codec (DV, BMD for DigiBeta) etc and that render is from the source files not any “Previews” I may have rendered (and I hardly ever render while working.

    Just my 2c.

Was I right about the sequence being interlaced and the program showing only 1 field? Setting the Pause Resolution to Full and Both Fields gives a more accurate “look” 🙂

This looks like an interlaced one field view setting in program monitor from an interlaced timeline. I would also suggest that the thickness of the lines are perhaps a little too thin when scaled down too. Let us know how the maximum render tick helps. I use PhotoShop text and graphics quite a hit and don’t see unacceptable results. Working in interlaced vs progressive makes a difference.

  • You can set in out markers around selected clip with key. Or set markers around the clip under the playhead with “shift+” combo. The function of removing the media between in and out markers that puts the clip into the paste option is called “Lift” with “:” key. It leaves a gap where the in out markers were set and the lifted clip is in the clipboard to paste.

“Extract” with the “;” key is based on the same process but it closes the gap left behind. That clip is still ready to paste.

  • Another Trick is to set the Multicam window to an Audio Track that is there just has nothing in it.

    🙂

  • What format are you working with?

It could just be that the render.relates to the audio being nested to see the waveform.

I multicam edit with the original audio outside the multicam sequence so video track 1 is the “multicam enabled” nest and audio tracks are a copy paste of the audio synced inside the nest. I find I have way more control this way and multicam is only looking at the vision.

    Hope that helps.

    Might make a tutorial…. 🙂

  • I would suggest just importing the entire project and not go with a specific one, This will import all the folder structure of the project too.

If you want to clean it up just remove the bits you don’t want in the project. 🙂

Are you exporting to a different KHz or frame rate than what was shot and or edited in?

What version of PPro are you using?

June 27, 2011 at 1:10 pm in reply to: Frame by Frame Scrubbing with Blackmagic Decklink?

Sounds more like a Blackmagic issue than an Adobe one. I can get frame by frame scrubbing using the arrows left or right or using the JKL hold K and use L for 1 frame fwd or hold K and tap J for rew 1 frame.
