Yes I love it in FCP and would love to see PPro gain this amazingly simple and timesaving feature.

Be sure to check the capture capture settings are set to HDV. DV setting will still control the camera deck but won’t capture HDV.

This behaviour is not typical.
I would suggest that your graphics card driver is probably the issue here. Thanks to Apple they write there own drivers which tend to get broken with Adobe products after an osx update or upgrade.
Look in that direction. My c2d laptop moves it around snappy quick.

There could be corrupted conform files in the project and it snags on it.
Here’s what I do if (happens very rarely) this happens. Go to Preferences… Media… Clear Cache.
Quit Premiere Pro
Wait a minute as the deleting (clearing of cache) happens after quiting.
Relaunch PPro.
Let any of the conforming and indexing, etc of the media finish (you can see a yellow bar in the very bottom right when it is doing it).
Export.
Let us know how it goes.

Hi Matt,
I have the Z1P and use that to capture DV, HDV and HDV downconverted.
There is a couple of things to be aware of when using the camera in the different modes.
Before anything set up the VTR playback with the camera NOT connected to the Computer!
1. Check if the Camera in VTR mode is set to Auto, DV or HDV. If it is in Auto you will be ok in most cases. (If you are having issues set it to the dedicated tape recording type)
2. Check if the down convert function is on and showing the output light at the firewire connection on the camera is set to DV. Playing the tape might activate this light to change if it doesn’t seem to be responding despite the Menu settings showing it is on. If you want to capture HDV then make sure this setting is off and the light indicates a HDV signal output when playing back.
3. Get this signal output correct before you have the camera connected, turn off the camera, plug in the firewire at camera and the other end in to the computer.
4. Launch Adobe Premiere Pro.
5. At the Capture interface go to the Settings panel and select the Edit… button under the Capture Settings box.
6. Make sure it is set to either DV or HDV (in your case HDV) so the software can recognize the correct signal coming from the firewire. If the setting was wrong then the camera will read as offiline.
7. Correcting this may require the camera to be switched off and on again.
8. Finally, set the Capture location so you KNOW where it is going.
9. When capturing HDV with Adobe Premiere Pro you won’t see the video in the capture screen, that is the way it is designed to capture HDV. Don’t panic it still captures it – done it a hundred odd times.
Let us know how you go.
If this doesn’t work you may have fried the firewire connection by plugging it into the computer while the camera is switched on. That can be expensive to fix, but there is no other way if you know nothing is seeing the camera or able to control it.
