Macs are the same but different. I love the tool because its what I know best. Comfort factor.

As far as Ti book or G5, it does depend on your needs. I have hauled my g5, raid, and cinema desplay to another state before and I’ve also cut on a 15″ powerbook. They both suck. But I’ve never seen someone cutting in the park on a G5!

Ultimatly you have to decide what the tool needs to do. Do you want power and expandibility or do you need to produce a finished dvd in the jungle to the monkeys you just shot?

PS: we have 99% fewer viruses in our world but wierd things still happen.

My favorite mode with the HVX is the 720p24pN- The vFPS are available and the is no messing with flaged frames. You also get the most use of p2 time per card. 10 min per 4 gig card.
One of the techniques I like is shooting with myleft hand on the top of the stix and resting the cam on top of it. I can control the amount “handheld” look to desired amount. Another option is one of the soft mounts like cinesaddle or a sand bag to brace the cam.

Black Magic Decklink HD to HD link to 23″ cine display. It’s a great low cost monitor setup. Some people rip it on these forums but it works. Panny’s new 17″ mon is my next step but till then I’m ok.

When I need to apply an effect to multiple edits I set the transition to default. r-click in browser. Then r-click in timeline between clips and apply default. It can be kind of slow if you have a ton of cuts.

Thanks- It’s just disapointing to have a rock solid system go south with no explaination.

I was also concerned about archival and data loss. I also made sure to have the data transfered to two differnt drives just incase one failed. The process takes a little time to get used to. Everyones comfortable with tape formats but p2 is less prone to damage from cold, moisture and shock. Optical would be a nice archival option. We’ll see what other options gain in popularity as the technology grows.

You do have to download and install P2 drivers. After that the p2 card inserted into the pcmcia slot on the G4 powerbook pops up like any external drive. Using the file, Import panasonic p2 function in FCP converts the .MXF files to QT and deposits them into your capture folder. EFFORTLESSLY! People have been complaining about price and size of p2. $600 for the 4 G card, $1000 for the upcoming 100g firestore. THERE IS NO TAPE TO BUY EVER. HD with no tape cost. And no edit time to Digitize. I shot 720 p 24 and got 10 min on a 4g card. Transfere time to FWdrive via powerbook was 3MIN. Also the variable frame rate in 720pN mode comes in to FCP with out haveing to use a frame rate converter to id flaged frames. It just works effortlessly.

    The powerbook is a 1.5G w/ FCP5.04 on tiger.

This is the begining of the end of tape formats for aquisition-(In my opinion)
