Unfortunately it’s been awhile, and I don’t remember what I did! Sorry.

I know at some point I did a “settings purge,” but that’s a pretty desperate measure, since you lose all your preferences. I think I may have also done a reinstall of the entire suite at some point, but that’s even worse. [wink]

I’m embarrassed to say just *HOW MUCH* this was driving me nuts. Waveforms back to “normal.” Blood pressure dropping.

    Thank you so much.

  • Depending on the project and if it’s only “minor” mixing (dialogue and just a few SFX’s), it’s usually not worth the headache of exporting from Adobe and importing to Pro Tools and then re-exporting/importing once you’re done (especially if it’s mostly just putting fadein/fadeout on clips).

When you edit and do sound, it’s just easier to stay in Premiere unless you’re really rolling up your sleeves to do some audio magic.

It looks like they changed expand/collapse to mouseover-and-scroll-to-resize, so there’s no short cut key to expand/collapse a single track anymore. Bummer for me, but I guess I’ll just get used to it.

  • Thanks for the response, Vashi.

Ann’s response actually just reiterates what I said in my original post (having to hover over a certain spot and scroll my mouse wheel isn’t really a viable option to open/collapse a track as often as I do).

However, thank you SO MUCH for the information on deselecting rectified audio waveforms. I really appreciate it!

July 30, 2017 at 7:01 pm in reply to: how to gang audio channels?

You’d think they could have addressed this in CC, no? I just want to be able to expand/contract, apply affects, etc. mutliple “ganged” tracks without having to create a submix for each group of tracks I want to gang (which also doesn’t address expanding/contracting visuals, etc.).

Not really, as it still gives you just one long clip (not all the clips still linked respectively).

The original poster stated: “I’m not actually trying to merge multiple clips into one clip just multiple clips at the same time but keeping them separate.”

Was looking for the same thing. I am using CS6 and have hundreds of separate clips (after making selections from a single, original clip). I would like each video clip linked to its respective audio without having to select each pair separately, right click and “link.” As mentioned, in Final Cut you can just drag the clips into the project bin and all the individual pairs are linked as they should be.

Unfortunately, in Premiere CS6 and earlier, if you start with a long clip with linked audio/video, as soon as you start chopping that clip up, the resulting shorter clips are no longer linked (which seems a bit ridiculous and counterproductive).

I can’t believe how horribly Adobe neglected audio and video, especially in regard to no “linking” in the project panel or bins, in versions previous to CC. I still have nightmares about editing a feature film in CS4.1 (the only program addressing .R3D natively at the time), because of the lack of audio/video linking in the project bins.

FWIW, as a (horrible) workaround, I’ve created a keyboard shortcut for “link” and assigned it to a button on my ShuttlePRO2, so I can at least just select two clips at once and hit a single button (vs. selecting from the right-click menu or having to hit a shortcut on the keyboard). I still have to link hundreds of pairs one at a time though.

September 23, 2015 at 9:03 pm in reply to: CS6 Playhead jumping around on timeline

FWIW, I am suddenly getting a similar problem in CS6 with the playhead jumping to the beginning of the timeline after I split a clip. No idea why. Very frustrating.

Playing timeline sequence. Split a clip (ctrl+k). Stop playhead (space bar). Play again (space bar) and the Playhead jumps to beginning of the entire sequence.

Posting hear because this is the first post that came up when I searched “premiere jumps to beginning of timeline after split.”

May 19, 2015 at 8:04 pm in reply to: Using H4n on film set

I realize this an old thread, but thought I’d post in case the “indie crowd” found it looking for tips on use of their H4N’s. While the H4N isn’t going to compete with an 8 channel Tascam or Sound Devices field recorder, you can definitely use it as a decent little budget 4 track recorder.

We run a mic into each XLR input (which are phantom powered), then plug the lav receiver or a mixing board/direct out into the 3.5mm input jack on the bottom of the unit, which hijacks the onboard mic input.

We usually use this as a three track solution, but if you’re using a mixer and you pan hard left and right, you will have four channels of isolated audio.

Again, not necessarily “pro,” but a great solution for a budget production.

May 2, 2015 at 2:15 am in reply to: Clip Label Shortcut?

    The specific answer…

    Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts>

Click the triangle next to “Edit” to expand the choices.
Click the triangle next to “Labels” to expand the choices.

Assign the label a shortcut (click on the specific label and click “edit”).

When I’m working on music videos, I like to mark clips I’ve used, so I don’t accidentally use a clip twice. Being able to to simply hit ctrl+1 (or a single button on my ShuttlePro2) rather than going through a drop down to mark a clip as “used” is a major time saver.
