OK, some success. Tried a different deck. After hooking up deck and while playing tape, rebooted the computer and relaunched FCE. This time was able to digitize. That rocks.

OK, I’m guessing by the silence that FCE won’t recognize decks that are not cameras? Perhaps? No one wants to deliver the bad news.
    Maybe back to Avid? humm

“Break Out Board”, probably the Mojo, or Adrenaline or whatever, if you do have a BOB. If you don’t then your only option is firewire in and out.

It’s an Intel Centrino core 2 duo. 4mg ram. Most of the work would be dv25, just interested how it would handle hdv if necessary. It’s also a 64 bit OS.
    Thanks for your help.

October 28, 2008 at 10:03 pm in reply to: Laser eye surgery

I had LASIK done 11 years ago. The lasers and the optics technology that map your eyes were not as good as they are now. But I would never go back to the way I was before the laser eye surgery.
In my case I was extremely nearsighted (20/400) with moderate astigmatism. I wore Coke bottle thick lenses. Eleven years later I do wear glasses with a very thin lens (about 20/30), due to changes in my vision in more recent years. I don’t nead to wear reading glasses to see a computer screen or read a book.
My understanding is that the “halo” effect experienced by some who got early laser eye surgery, is very minimized or non-existent with today’s lasers. The only time I experience a “halo” effect is with very high contrast situations. White credits on a dark screen in a theatre, or looking at a full moon. For anywhere from a few days to a few weeks after the procedure is when you might have some residual effects, dry eyes etc. Some people I know have said that the following day their vision was perfect with no issues at all.
It is certainly a serious decision and from my perspective it worked well. I would recommend one of the following lasers.
Bausch & Lomb Zyoptix, or the Allegretto laser.
By the way, I’ve been doing a variety of videos on various kinds of laser eye surgery for many years and have seen and heard what ad gimmicks are working. I’d be happy to answer any further questions.

August 26, 2008 at 7:44 pm in reply to: Installing Encore on my Avid system

We have Encore (older version 1.5) living on an HP 8200 with an Avid Media Composer. We use both applications regularly.
No problems have been detected due to this so far. I wouldn’t leave Avid open while working in Encore. Encore is kind of shaky sometimes so I make sure it’s the only app running when I’m using it.

Ditto on the reliability of the Meridien systems. I’ve used two Symphony’s and owned an Avid Express Elite and have had no hardware trouble. They aren’t the fastest things around but they work with long timelines very well, which is one of the weaknesses of every other NLE I’ve ever touched.

As far as merging your newer Express Pro HD with the older Meridien hardware…I can’t comment with any experience but I would be doubtful that it would work. Don’t take my absolute word on that as I’ve never tried it, maybe someone else has and could post a more knowledgeable response on this.

    Good Luck

OK, I found the navigational slider for PowerDVD 8. But it does not function with a disc I authored on Encore 1.5.

This version I have is PowerDVD 8, but it is a free 30 day trial version, perhaps the slider is only available when you buy. I’ll double check it tomorrow, but the slider on the display was only speed control up to 32x or minus 32x.
