[anawit jitmana] “I read some technic that export from AE with alpha channel but when i import to vegas, it still have a background. HELP ME PLEASE!”

You have to tell Vegas Pro about the Alpha Channel. It will not detect it in most videos by default.

Go into the media properties and set it to something other than none. I would start with Straight (unmated):

April 30, 2016 at 5:01 pm in reply to: transition problem

It appears that you are trying to create a transition between connected clips which is why you are seeing this behavior.

I have to ask… From your screen shot we can see that your Primary Storyline is empty. Why is that?

What happened is that your clips were not on the primary storyline. They are just Connected Clips above an empty primary storyline. In order to add a transition between clips, they have to be on a storyline so what FCP X did was create a secondary storyline for you. In addition, you probably selected the clip in the middle and dropped a transition on it which by default, adds the transition to both the head and tail of the clip which required creating a secondary storyline from three clips: the selected clip, the clip before it, and the clip after it.

If you want the transitions to behave as you expect, you should have your clips on the primary storyline and then Command+Click (⌘+click) just the edge that you want the transition applied to before you add it.

    [Dáithí Cinnsealach] “set to best,”

Unless you are resizing the video, you can change Best to Good and get the SAME quality in HALF the time. There is a reason that Good is the default. You don’t need to use Best unless you are resizing (e.g,., HD to SD) and it takes twice as long.

Yes, Track Motion is perfect for scaling down and making PIPs. You just don’t want to scale up with it.

  • [Aaron Star] “I think a mass majority of the apple users still believe your statement, which is simply not contemporary. Since Mac users are not tech oriented folks, the risks are probably greater than an to an average Windows or Unix user.”

Actually the reason that Mac’s are safer is because users do not run as administrators like on Windows. This limits the damage that a virus can do. Modern versions of Windows have tried to emulate this but as we all know, User Access Control is the first thing that everyone on Windows disables because some software doesn’t work properly with it on or just because the prompts are annoying, once again making Windows users more vulnerable. No system is impervious to viruses but running with full administrative rights is just plain asking for trouble. Macs don’t work that way.

April 24, 2016 at 4:29 pm in reply to: Final Cut 7 on one drive, X on another

[Ettiene Snyman] “I have a 2010 MBP running OSX 10.9.5….will FCP 7 run on this???”

It depends on your definition of “run”. 😉 It will not “install” on OS X 10.9 Mavericks because the installer is written for PowerPC Macs and Rosetta (the component that allows PowerPC Mac applications to run on Intel Mac’s) is not included with OS X Mavericks. In fact, it disappeared with 10.7 Lion so FCP 7 will not install on Lion and above.

If you already have it installed and upgrade to 10.9.5 it should “mostly” continue to run but some things may no longer work. This is why it is recommended that if you need to run unsupported software that you have an extra drive with the version of OS X that the software requires. As you get further away from OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, you will find FCP 7 functionality to be less and less compatible.

  • [Maxim Unique] “Do you know any other NLE which supports video buses?”

No, none that I know of. Vegas Pro has far more ways of adding FX than any other NLE but there is only the Master Video Bus and that affects the entire project.

April 24, 2016 at 2:49 pm in reply to: mp4 files lagging worth upgrade to vegas 13?

[Linda O'Connell] “Finally I converted all the files to avi and works great! No lagging. So both the IPad mov and the converted mp4 files were the cause. “

Converting to Sony MXF is also a good solution as long as you are converting them. Sony MXF will results in smaller files and they should playback smoothly. Try a few and see.

April 24, 2016 at 2:37 pm in reply to: reelsmart motion blur + default smart resampling

[Keyser Chapton] “my question is still unsolved tho >.<“

Here’s the problem… Vegas Pro’s “Smart” Resample is actually not very smart. It was smart 10 years ago when DV was the only medium and there were only 3 frame rates (29.98, 25.0, & 23.98). Smart Resample isn’t smart enough to handle 60p or 200p so this is why you are being instructed to turn it off.

For example: The proper way to convert from 60p to 30p is to simply drop every other frame (i.e., 30 = 60 / 2). Smart Resample isn’t “smart” enough to figure this out so it tries to blend 60 frames into 30 frames by merging every 2 frames together to form one frame. This makes a mess of things with lots of ghost images.

What you probably want to do is disable smart resample so that it drops frames instead of blending them and use RSMB to add the motion blur back in. This is what the tutorials are telling you to do.

How are you checking to see the results? You have to render to see the proper results. You will not see the effects of smart resample in the timeline preview. It’s a render function that’s only applied when you render.
