[Keyser Chapton] “I turned smart resampling and rsmb on but my eyes can’t really see a bad thing. maybe I get worse quality perhaps?”

Smart Resample will only come into play if you change the frame rate. If the frame rate of the video matches the frame rate of the project, smart resample will have no affect.

[Keyser Chapton] “whats the problem in using smart resampling with rsmb?”

Reelsmart Motion Blur performs resampling so you want to turn Sony’s built-in resampling off when using it. The same is true if you want to use a 3rd party de-interalacer (i.e., you want to turn Sony’s de-interlacer off). It’s just a case of using one or the other but not both.

April 23, 2016 at 1:22 pm in reply to: how to zoom in a rush using a bigger rush size ?

[Aaron Star] “Use the Pan Crop tool on the clip, or a separate track and use track motion, to crop in on the 4k footage and re-frame the to your taste.”

Be careful! You do not use Track Motion for zooming. Track Motion works at the project resolution so if you zoom your 4K footage with Track Motion, Vegas Pro will first convert the 4K frame to 1080 HD and then scale the 1080. This is NOT what you want.

Always zoom using Pan/Crop. Pan/Crop will preserve the 4K media as it zooms in using the full resolution and then converting to 1080 HD only at the end, which is what you want to happen.

[George Dean] “However, as far as, Vegas Pro 13, I think the best way to answer your question is to download the trial version.”

    +1

This will answer your question definitively. Try it and see how it handles on your computer. You get 30 days to decide.

That’s a standard title called Slide Reveal that comes with Apple Final Cut Pro X

You could create that in Vegas Pro with several layers of text and generated media with masks and position keyframes.

If you had FCP X you would just drag and drop it onto your timeline and change the text be done with it. 😉

  • You can try QuickTime Alternate. I’ve never used it with Vegas Pro because I have QuickTime installed but it might provide codecs that work.

Let us know how you make out.

  • [Jean-Pierre Desrochers] “It seems that this MPEG compression is a bit too compressed from Vegas at capture time.. What do you think ? “

Vegas Pro isn’t compressing anything. This is what the device produces. You have no control over this. HDV is a fixed compression and the same bit rate as DV and you can’t change it. That’s what makes it HDV.

This is fine for editing. I edit HDV all the time from my Sony Z1U and it looks great.

I listened to it and it suffers from clipping from over modulation. Vegas Pro doesn’t have anything to fix this all by itself. Sound Forge has a Clipped Peak Restoration function that might help. iZotope RX also has the ability to restore peaks that are clipped.

April 19, 2016 at 2:13 am in reply to: Ultimate Vegas Machine?

[Pavel Dynzik] “Can Vegas Pro use two processors when I render video?”

Yes, I have two 6-Core CPU’s. That’s 12-Cores total with 24 Threads and Vegas Pro makes good use of the majority of it. I think it only allows 16 threads but it doesn’t care if they are all on one processor or two.

You will need Windows 7 Professional to use 2 processors. I don’t think Windows 7 Home will use 2. Maybe Windows 8.1 or 10 is different. You should check just to be sure.

[Aaron Star] “I do not think it is wise to tell people not to upgrade their windows.”

We are not telling people not to update their Windows PC. I’m sorry if it sounded like that. We are recommending that you update at the time of your own choosing, hopefully right after you have created a full backup so that if anything goes wrong with the update you can recover quickly.

It is foolish to trust your business computer to the whimsical updates from Microsoft. No fortune 500 company does this and neither should you if you are running a video business. Stability during a project is far more important than updates that could destabilize things.

I’m speaking from experience here. I had a Windows update disable my development tools by installing an incomparable version of .Net Framework the day before I was to leave for NAB to demo my software to the world. It was devastating. I had to find another computer that did not have the update and install my tools so that I could finish my code. It was 8 hours of wasted time recovering. From that day forward, I never let Microsoft apply updates in the middle of a project, and never without having a full backup first.
