You have to add a Fade to Color envelope for these to work. Right-click the video track and choose Insert/Remove Envelope > Fade to Color. Then add envelope points and drag them up for the Top color and down for the Bottom color.

Crossfades (i.e., plain dissolves) are the default. Don’t add any transitions and you will get a crossfade where the events overlap. Just keep the Apply Transitions option unchecked.

Well… I’ve not heard back from anyone. I sent an email to BorisFX support on Dec 2nd and here it is the 16th with no reply (unfortunately this is typical of past emails I’ve sent to Boris support with no reply) :(.
Boris RED worked on my Vista 64 machine before Adobe CS4 was installed so it’s not my hardware. Boris BLUE continues to work. There is obviously a problem with RED that needs to get fixed.
How do I get support?

It sounds like import dvd camcorder disc is messing things up. I would still try what I suggested. Copy the VOB files to your hard drive and rename them to MPG.

You are correct. You cannot create higher resolution with DVD Architect Studio. If you wanted to stay with DVD Architect, you would need to upgrade to Vegas Pro with DVD Architect 5 to get Blu-ray support for high definition which is a lot more money.
Personally, if I were you, I would take a look at Ulead DVD Movie Factory. You get Blu-ray authoring for about $49. If this is just stuff for your own personal use, it should be fine. Check out the trial and see if it fits your need.

Are you saying that it is breaking the files up randomly in the middle while you were recording? That is quite odd. I would try and find the VOB files on the DVD and drag them to your hard drive and rename them MPG and see if that helps.

I just render to DVD for our church projector. If the projector isn’t HD then that’s probably the best approach.

Can’t help you with #1.
For #2 the media manager is not designed for general browsing. It is for doing a search and then browsing the results. If your search returns 1000 results you probably need more search criteria. So it was not intended to be a general browser. You can do that with explorer. You could always increase the search limit if that’s how you want to use it.

Go into Pan/Crop for the Standard Def clip, right-click on the frame (window) and select Match Output Aspect. This will crop the 4:3 footage to 16:9. Then adjust the crop so that your subject doesn’t have their head cut off.
