Hi Curtis and welcome to the pasture. Glad to hear at least that cows made it home safely during your render. 😉

As for your aspect problem, you need to keep everything widescreen from start to finish. This means create your Vegas project using a widescreen template like the HDV 720-30p (1280×720, 29.970 fps) if you are using NTSC or the 25p if you are PAL or 23.976 if you shot in 24p mode. Likewise when you render, use the MainConcept MPEG-2 setting with the HDV 720-30p or appropriate template for your fps. This will keep everything in the 16:9 aspect. When viewed on a standard TV it should be full screen side-to-side with black bars top and bottom and on an HDTV it will fill the entire screen.

Thanks but I’m still having issues.

Just a reminder my camera only shoots in 1280×720 (HD720p)

I’m using Vegas ver 9.0b (build66) and here’s my options under Project Properties:

So I selected NTSC DV Widescreen (720×480,29.970 fps) and Pixel Ratio of 1.2121 came up automatically so I used that.

If I click on Properties of the video in the timeline window I get this:

Then I Rendered the video as MainConcept MPEG-2 with the template DVD NTSC. I had been using .wmv.

After it rendered I went to DVD Architect and selected these properties:

I’m still getting cropping of the video on the left and right although I have black bars top and bottom that look about right.

Well I see that I do NOT have the PRO version so that’s why my resolution can’t go any higher.

I have DVD architect 4.5d and see that there is no way to force a resolution. Is there a workaround for any of this?

I really don’t mind having the whole movie full screen or widescreen, I just need what I’ve shot with the camera to render with the entire width.

I’ve lost my cows! 🙂

Yea it’s really important that you tell people that you are using Movie Studio. Simply calling is Vegas confuses everyone. You do not need the PRO version, you just need the Movie Studio Platinum version. That is the Movie Studio version that supports HD.

This is what’s causing the problem. The DVD NTSC template is 4:3. You need to use the DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream template which is 16:9. That will get the results you are looking for. You will have to render your audio separately as a WAV file. Give it the same name as the video file and DVD Architect will automatically recognise it as the audio for the video.

Sorry about not giving enough info, I’m new to this and didn’t realize the other products.

I think I have more of this figured out. I’ve gotten it sorted so that it views properly on a 4:3 TV and 16:9 TV.

If I purchased the PLATINUM version would it give me the options in DVD Architect Studio the ability to select above a 720×480 resolution?

The reason I ask as it seems that the Movie Studio and Platinum version both ship with DVD Architect ver 4.5 and that version 5 may be required to render in a higher resolution.

You are correct. You cannot create higher resolution with DVD Architect Studio. If you wanted to stay with DVD Architect, you would need to upgrade to Vegas Pro with DVD Architect 5 to get Blu-ray support for high definition which is a lot more money.

Personally, if I were you, I would take a look at Ulead DVD Movie Factory. You get Blu-ray authoring for about $49. If this is just stuff for your own personal use, it should be fine. Check out the trial and see if it fits your need.
