Kenton, I would contact Sony and request a refund. I would also tell them that they seriously need to consider taking the name “Vegas” out of the “Movie Studio” product because it continues to cause problems for customers not understanding the difference between the Pro line and Movie Studio line. In fact, to make matters worse, Sony has now add the work “Pro” to Movie Studio with the “Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 Pro Pack”! You are far from the only one who has been bitten by this. Vista 64 ships with .Net Framework 3.0 already installed. There is nothing extra to install to use Vegas Pro 8.1.

The move from Vegas Pro to Vegas Movie Studio is not an upgrade, it’s a downgrade. Vegas Pro can open Movie Studio files but Movie Studio cannot open Vegas Pro files. Basically, you went from the professional version to the home user version which is why your projects won’t open.

Actually most of the time I can get 29.97 but it does drop a bit from time to time. I’m using the default ram usage settings (128). My physical PC has 8GB of RAM.

What version of Vegas do you have? Movie Studio? The Movie Studio version is not going to recognize the Pro version of DVD Architect. As Steve said you are going to have to manually render from Vegas and import into DVD Architect.

What codec did you use? AVI is just a container that could have any codec. What was the original source? You should use a codec for your render that is at least as good as your source codec.
As for the DVD, you’ll need to render to MPEG2 and decrease the average bitrate from the default of 6,000 mbps to around 4,500 mbps. I would use the Two Pass option to get the best quality possible for that bitrate. You might also want to use a double layer DVD which would easily fit 2 hrs.

I don’t have any answers other than to give you another data point: My Core 2 Quad 2.66GHz gets ~28fps on Best(Full) for HDV M2T content in Vegas Pro 8.1. My CPU utilization is around 50% during playback. So something is not right that only 20% of your CPU power is being utilized.
What format is the HDV media? I was using M2T files from my Sony Z1U camera when I took those measurements.

Do you have any other firewire video devices that you could test to see if they work? I just wonder if that deck doesn’t look like a regular miniDV firewire camera to Vista? I haven’t had to load drivers on Visa 64 for any of my firewire camcorders.

You need to read the error message carefully and follow the link to the Microsoft web site where it will give you another link to the software you need to download to get the help working properly.
As for Vegas Pro 8.1, it cannot see any FX that are not 64-bit. Wavehammer is not 64-bit. Wave Hammer Surround is. Try that instead.
