Sony Vegas 8 and 9
Posted by Kenton Sanchez on December 19, 2008 at 10:15 pmDoes anyone know if it’s at all possible to open a Sony Vegas Pro 8 project file in Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9? I’ve recently upgraded and the program looks almost exactly the same yet I can’t open previous project files. Any ideas?

December 19, 2008 at 11:40 pmThe move from Vegas Pro to Vegas Movie Studio is not an upgrade, it’s a downgrade. Vegas Pro can open Movie Studio files but Movie Studio cannot open Vegas Pro files. Basically, you went from the professional version to the home user version which is why your projects won’t open.

Just stick with your Vegas 8 Pro Kenton…..all versions that
has movie studio in it are geared for beginners or
home users, as John pointed out.Steve Rhoden

December 20, 2008 at 1:58 pmKenton, I would contact Sony and request a refund. I would also tell them that they seriously need to consider taking the name “Vegas” out of the “Movie Studio” product because it continues to cause problems for customers not understanding the difference between the Pro line and Movie Studio line. In fact, to make matters worse, Sony has now add the work “Pro” to Movie Studio with the “Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 Pro Pack”! You are far from the only one who has been bitten by this. Good luck!

December 21, 2008 at 8:30 pmI agree 100% with John. I have had untold aggravation with people arguing with me about the “NEW VEGAS Pro 9”. When I tell them that it doesn’t exist, they get annoyed and tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about. Once I pull ALL their teeth out (figuratively)and prove it to them, they get that “OHHHHH” look on their face and then get angry all over again.
I think that the problem is as stated. Sony needs to get the words “PRO and VEGAS” out of their consumer software. Not only does it confuse a lot of people, but it also serves to dilute the professional level of the REAL professional software.
