It sounds like you might be rendering it to uncompressed format which is extremely large (as you have seen). How are you rendering it? I’m not sure what options VMS has (I use Vegas Pro) but if it has the Sony AVC or MainConcept AVC save type, select one of those and an appropriate template and it should produce a fairly small mp4 file. Also the Windows Media Video format will produce small files as well.

also… have you changed the DPI of your Windows Desktop? Right-click the desktop and choose Properties. Then go to the Settings tab and press the Advanced button. You should now be on the General tab of the advanced properties. Under Display there is a DPI Setting which should be set to 96 DPI. What does your say? If it’s anything but 96 DPI this could be the problem. Set it to 96 DPI and reboot.

Also, Photoshop Elements, Paint Shop Pro, SnagIt, almost any image application comes with a batch mode these days. Infranview has the advantage of being free (unless you donate which you should if you use it all the time). 😉

Instead of using the 4:3 preset, right-click and select Match Output Aspect. This will guarantee no black bars as long as you render to the same resolution.

Actually, you may be able to trick Vegas by substituting your video for non-DivX versions. Use a conversion tool like Super(c) to create an AVI file using DV or some other AVI codec and rename it the same as the original and place it in the same folder as the original (obviously renaming the original file) and perhaps Vegas might just open the project. It’s worth a try.

Add a Fade To Color envelope to the video track and create envelope points that quickly fade to white (top) and back.

Either use Ctrl+Drag on the right edge of the event to slow the video down, or change the Playback rate in the Properties of the event, or if you need to slow down gradually, add a Velocity Envelope to the event. Either of these three methods can be used to slow down (or speed up) the video.

A simple search here for the word “DivX” would have gotten your answer from any number of posts that we get week after week:
Vegas does not support DivX or XviD!
Stop using it, and your problem will go away.
