Sometimes buying the latest hardware is bad because the software hasn’t caught up. Did you buy an HP Workstation or a PC from their consumer line? The HP Workstations are designed to be used for application like video editing so their components should be compatible. In general it’s a good idea to stay away from consumer PC’s.
You could always swap out the incompatible burner for one that’s known to work. I’m using the Pioneer Blu-ray BD-RW BDR-220 and it works fine with DVD Architect Pro 5 on my home built Intel QuadCore system.

Yea, that’s an easy one. Buy the product. Those “letters” are called a “watermark” and they are there to prevent you from using the video FX without buying them. Perhaps your friend thought that they were free. They are not (just a free trial which shows the watermark). Once you buy the video FX from New Blue FX the watermark will go away.

I would download the latest updates for Vegas 7 which is 7e. This is when Sony added AVCHD support but it might not work with all AVCHD cameras. You may need to upgrade to Vegas Pro 8.0c. Try the update first and see. Good luck.

Yes, for takes. But I believe Jill was talking about sliding smaller events over a larger one to replace some (but not all) of the event. This is best done on a separate track.

Yes, but let’s define “standard DVD”. There is DVD the “format” and DVD the “shiny disc”. If we are just talking about the shiny DVD media disc, then you can burn a Blu-ray format to DVD media. This is what you are referring to and yes it works for about 20 minutes of video.
When Matt said DVD I assumed DVD player and thus DVD format. In re-reading his post I see that he wants to play them back on a PS3 in which case he can author a Blu-ray disc not to exceed the capacity of DVD media and it will play back on a PS3 but it won’t play back on a regular DVD player.
The easiest way to do this is from within Vegas use Tools | Burn Disc | Blu-ray Disc… and place DVD media in your burner. What you end up with is a Blu-ray formatted disc on DVD media.

Is there a reason you are not using DVD Architect 5? It works fine making Blu-ray’s from these files.

You really need to use two tracks. The fact that a clip can slide over or under another clip on the same track is a very dangerous thing. You should not do it intentionally. Trust me on this… use another track. You don’t want the nightmare of clips under clips. That’s why tracks are unlimited!

You need to figure out what is different about your DAW from your laptop. Do you have a 3rd party window manager installed? What other 3rd part system software? Can you post a screen shot of the problem? It’s kind of hard to diagnose without seeing it. Something is different about your DAW from your laptop. The trick is to figure out what it is.
