Should probably leave the name the same. Not much has changed here…it’s kind of like stepping into a timeless NLE debate vortex. I only check in every now and again and every time I do, it seems people are still often having the same heated discussion.
I guess that’s more than a bit unfair. There actually is a lot of interesting discussion here, but I am amazed by the longevity of the arguments surrounding FCPX’s user interface, etc, and whether it’s pro enough. And the strange reporting of any link that announces the onset of Adobe or Avid’s imminent demise…as if FCPX needs any validation by the misfortunes or missteps of its competitors. FCPX “arrived” long ago. It’s certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s very capable at what it does. If you don’t like it, there are plenty of very good alternatives. Or use them all…they each have their strengths and weaknesses (as do the companies than make said NLEs).

I think it’s the 29.97 frame rate that’s freaking it out. I don’t think that’s a choice in a 4K project, but maybe I am mistaken.

Why involve FCP at all? You can go between Avid and Resolve directly. You don’t even need an EDL.Why involve ProRes if you are transcoding to Avid DNX 120? Is the Archival stuff SD? ProRes can do SD but Avid DNX can’t, so I guess that could make some sense.

Did you ever get an answer to this? If merged clips are still problematic, how are all these big films being cut in Premiere these days getting around it?

I believe Adobe has already updated and corrected the issue,
If you are on. Mac and running Time Machine you can recover what got deleted (if anything). Use TinkerTool to display invisible files, then go back in time and examine the root level of your drive. Restore any missing directories from before the buggy update,

One other thing…. If you were able to upgrade your avid mc software that means you have tech support, since a basic support contract is required to receive updates.
Contact avid tech support and get them to help you. You are entitled to it. -

USB 3 is faster than Esata. Stay away from USB 2. Processor speed and perhaps RAM are more important for this, anyway.

The player Michael suggested is superior, but if you want to stick with Apple branded stuff, the QT 7 install won’t interfere with Quicktime X.
