all OMF’s from FCP are self contained.

Just open a sequence, select File/Export OMF

You can use an aux timecode to sync.
For cameras B and C the aux timecode can be the same as the regular timecode. For camera A, convert the media start time to its correct value in non drop and enter it into the aux field.

You can also simply change the actual timecode of the clip, but that would kill you if you had to re-capture.

The slowdown is because all effects re-render directly to MPEG2 (and not the codec of the timeline). This can make for a cleaner encode (but in many cases the effect is not really noticable), but it takes much much longer.

I usually go the reference movie route.

Cant be done. You must upgrade, or continue what you are doing.
Versions prior to 5 do not support multiple audio (more than two) channel captures.

The upgrade from 4.5 to 5.x is very inexpensive.

The only time you get superior quality letting DVD SP encode is when preparing material for motion menus.
If you pre-encode the video for the menus to MPEG2 using Compressor, it gets encoded a second time on the build of the DVD (this is because the buttons and text need to be composited with the video background). You should leave it a Quicktime movie and it will only be encoded once.

DVDSP, Quicktime, and Compressor all use the same encoding engine.

Just tested this with lower third graphics created in Motion and exported as self contained quicktimes (animation codec).

I do not see what you describe at all with an 8 bit Uncompressed sequence and a DVCPRO HD sequence. No shift at all that I can percieve.

I just tested on an Avid, and the answer apparently is no. The timecode reverts to 1 hour straight up.

I suppose if the timecode on the D88’s is continuous, you could simply note the start times, then modify the timecode to match after you import into FCP.

Automatic Duck may be the only other solution.

Book some time on an Avid.
Import them into the Avid (OMF is their format), then export AIFF files to use in FCP
