Yeah, you are screwed. If these are firewire drives, its probably better to just buy or borrow another drive, then copy everything to it , then re-format the original, then move the media back..then repeat for the second drive. Or it may be quicker to just recapture. Not sure how much material we are talking about. Firewire drives are not very expensive these days.

assuming you have all the legal issues squared away, just convert what you ripped with Mac The Ripper to something FCP can use (a Quicktime movie in the codec of your choice)….

you can do this with MPEG Streamclip

Prior to its release, I saw a demo of FCP 4 (thats 4, NOT 5) that had multi format in one timeline capability ….this system did NOT have a Cinewave card. Apple has been trying to get this feature in there for a long time, but I have no idea what the problem is.

The quality looked fine, the one time I did it, but the render time was unacceptable for me (many times slower than Nattress)

For directions on how to use it, look in the Compressor Help manual beginning on page 195.

1- You dont change the sample rate during digitizing, you do it in the timeline. Often, you dont need to do anything…FCP can change it on the fly until you run out of processing power, then you render.

From Vol. Page 314 of the FCP Help Manual

Mixing Sample Rates and Using Real-Time Sample Rate Conversion :

Ideally, the sample rate and bit depth of your audio files should match that of your
sequence settings. When you play a sequence in Final Cut Pro, any audio files with
    sample rates that don

October 20, 2006 at 6:19 am in reply to: exporting using compressor to make an mpg-2 file

[Tom Adams] “So, I’ll need this to be one file with audio & video combined. when you say “creating one from scratch”- what do you mean? “

You need to modify the MPEG 2 Preset you are using in the Inspector (Extras pane). Select Multiplexed MPEG-1/Layer 2 Audio. This will create one file including the audio.

[Tom Adams] “Wow, that seems like a long time to compress. I wonder if there are faster applications. I’ve played with Ulead StudioPro in the PC world and that seemed to take less time”

You are using an older Mac. A G5 or a MacPro will do this much faster.

To increase your encoding speed use a constant bit rate. In the Quality Pane of the Inspector, for Mode select Single Pass. For a smaller file size you are going to have to keep the bitrate under 5.

Sorry, you are going to have to read the manual to figure out the interface. Luckily its not very long.

October 20, 2006 at 6:02 am in reply to: OMF Volume Export

it will only have the original volume. The OMF file has no idea what you did in Soundtrack. OMF is an Avid file format and does not have any hooks into Soundtrack Pro. In fact no levels or effects of any kind carry across.

If you did destructive editing, it would be ‘built into’ the file and would be copied into the OMF.
