Hate to break it to you but the Avid codec is not really very usable within FCP. Right now, there is no Intel compatible Avid codec…as Avid does not currently run on Intel Macs. I think Quicktime player supports codecs thru Rosetta, but FCP does not, probably because it needs more horsepower for editing. Even if you were working on a PPC system, I still would not recommend trying to use the Avid codec in FCP.
Though you might be able to get it to work for small amounts of footage, the Avid codec not really intended for realtime editing. Note that Avid is not a Quicktime based editing system and does not itself work with Quicktime footage…when you import an Avid Codec Quicktime file into an Avid system, it is converted into OMF/MXF media.
Then there is this issue….
Some people (including ME!) have reported problems with FCP not being able to launch if the new Avid Codecs are installed.
After some experimentation, I was able to solve the problem…..The latest Avid codecs Version LE 1.20 installs 5 components into Library/Quicktime
Remove the following components:
AvidAVdvCodec.component
AvidAVpkCodec.componentFCP will now launch normally. At least it does for me.
I would recommend using Compressor to batch convert all your Avid Codec footage to something more usable. 10 bit Uncompressed would be a good choice for SD footage. If the media has an alpha channel, then use the Animation Codec.

You need to PURCHASE the 5.1 crossgrade.
That one is not free.If you purchase the crossgrade now, its likely that it will be a direct upgrade to 5.1.4.
The download 5.1.4 upgrade requires you to at least have FCP 5.1 Universal.

I think you are screwed. The latest software only version, and all versions for Adrenaline can do this.
[riskerone] “And can’t sample rate convert because then we will lose the sound timecode information which we need to sync to the cameras.”
You can use the modify timecode command to re-add the timecode, should you lose it. Just note the start time of each clip.
You are going to have to live with this big headache until you are able to upgrade to current hardware and software.

Just checked and iTunes does not allow a custom sample rate. Quicktime player does, but you will need to do them one at a time.
You might also be able to import them into the Avid at 48k, then export them at 47.952, then re-import them. Dont know if that version of Avid software will allow you to enter a custom sample rate for export.

The Meridiens were not designed for this sort of thing. The 24p cameras are really shooting 23.98…not like a film camera with true 24. You really need the option of a 23.98 project.Have you tried importing into iTunes (change the import preferences to AIFF at sample rate of 47.952) ?

No problem. Still a good feature request though.
The Autosave works differently on Avid, as its not saving the Project, only copies of the bins (bins are discrete files on Avid) to the Attic.
It may be slightly faster under some circumstances, but it can be a pretty long interruption if you have a lot of bins open.

You should use Media Manager for this purpose and not Compressor.
Then everything will link properly.
Right tool for the right job.

No. But you can export a batch list, then print it from Excel.

[Shane Ross] “If it was created on a PC there will be issues.”
I have only heard of problems on PC created files if they have layers, which PICT files don’t support anyway.
