  • Can I upgrade FCP from 5.0.4 DIRECTLY to 5.1.4??

Posted by Stu Aull on March 3, 2007 at 9:34 pm

    Hi Folks-
have downloaded (but NOT installed) FCP5.1.4 and all newest Studio Motion/Compressor/ProDVD4/updates as noted on Apple Support site.
There have been numerous software updates BETWEEN my existing 5.0.4 and 5.1.4 – so the question:

Do I need to perform these INTERMEDIATE updates first to get the benefits in each, or will the CUMULATIVE stuff be in 5.1.4?
Likewise Q for rest of my 5.0.4 Studio Package (Motion, Livetype,Compressor, etc.)

Checked Archive on this but found nothing…
    many thanks

You need to PURCHASE the 5.1 crossgrade.
    That one is not free.

If you purchase the crossgrade now, its likely that it will be a direct upgrade to 5.1.4.

The download 5.1.4 upgrade requires you to at least have FCP 5.1 Universal.

    John,
I’ve been running FC 5.0.4 untill now and now I’ve got the chance to upgrade to 5.1.x because I;ve finished the projects I was working. You think is worth the up-grade? The truth is that 5.0 is working gerat. No crashes, no problems with effects, not corrupted files. I read the people complaining a lot with the 5.1.x. Should I wait a bit more to Apple release a really stable version, or is 5.1.4 really finished?
    Thanks in advance.

You will need at least 5.1 for any further upgrades.
5.1 has improvements across the board, including fixes to the Media Manager and Realtime Scopes. More fixes and enhancements are on Apples website.

Wait until your projects are finished before upgrading.
Get yourself a firewire drive…They are super cheap these days. Clone your hard drive to it. Then you can always go back if you have a problem.

However if you are perfectly happy where you are and have no interest in further upgrades, then stay with what you have.

One thing to keep in mind is that the crossgrades and upgrades are currently inexpensive. These were prices that were originally due to expire in mid-December that were then extended.
I don’t know if Apple intends to terminate the offer anytime soon, but might want to take advantage of these prices while they last.
