You may need to apply the shift fields filter first, as changing the frame size may invert your field order. You’ll see this with stuttery motion and jaggies on edges.

I don’t think he can do the Avid codec in 1:1 because it requires the video to be 720 x 486. Maybe they’ve changed that in recent versions.

I think whoever told you that meant not to use Apple Uncompressed, which would be unavailable on your Avid system (its installed by FCP)
Animation will work fine, however the file size will be colossal for a project that long.
Avid will import DV-NTSC just fine…the file size will be much smaller…but I can understand you not wanting to subject your graphics and filters to DV compression….but it this is a simple sequence, with no effects or compositing, you might want to do that instead -
You didn’t specify your location or budget, but renting an HDCAM JH-3 (player only) deck for the day is not as horrifically expensive as you might think. The full blown recorders are extremely expensive, but you only need that for mastering…and then maybe you can just bring your finished product as a Quicktime on a drive to a post house for layback to tape.

Are the original files using a lower quality setting of the Animation Codec (there is a slider)? Or a lower frame rate? Usually people don’t use anything but the highest setting, but its possible to lower it.

Its probably creating a huge RAM cache to do this. With a large project, it probably chokes.

You will see this exact symptom if you have the wrong Easy Setup selected (for example, the footage is 1080i and your Easy Setup is 720p)….are you sure of the format of the footage?
This happened to me the other day…. my shooter was supposed to shoot 720p but shot 1080i instead.

Kernal panics are almost always hardware (or drivers that allow the computer to communicate with hardware) related.
Sometimes people forget to install the latest version of drivers after a clean install. If you are using any peripherals or PCI cards, make sure you have the most current drivers installed.

Been running 14 hour days all week with it. HD show. No problems at all.
Sorry, have not tested SmoothCam. Have rarely ever used it.

If you install the latest Avid Codecs on your machine, you may also use Avid’s flavor of the DVCPRO-HD called AvidDV100. Under the hood its the same as the “regular” DVCPRO-HD codec, but you may end up taking another compression hit going this route. If the massive drive space required for Animation is a problem, you might try doing a test with this.
